Where and how to meet people when...

Recommended Posts

I'm graduating from college and I haven't found a job yet. I want to avoid having a "social void" during that time. Where and how do you try to meet people when you are neither in school or working? I had almost zero social life in school, but at least I had classes. Now even that's going to be gone.

I'll go to the library a lot, but a library doesn't seem to be a place full of chances to meet people. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Online dating services? Clubs (best places around here)? Through friends?

School is definitely a great place to meet people, but that's out. When you do find a job, I wouldn't suggest looking for romance with a co-worker.

Good luck to you.

work along your personal hobbies.... at least you'd meet people with same interests as you.....

eg. a futsol arena is a nice place to hang out (IMO) :) if you like futsol

or you could stay here on loveshack and keep us company :p

try the gym, or take up some classes (dance)....

i'm just shooting around... really not sure what your interests are, but you get the picture right? :)

Join groups in subjects that you're interested in. Do volunteer work for a cause you believe in. Those are great ways to get out there and meet folks. The Internet is a powerful tool. You'll be able to find groups in your area through there. That's how I found the softball league I play in.

My hobbies are "niche" ones: computer programming and building electronics gadgets.

There is a club of this kind 100 miles away from my place (2 1/2 hours by train).

I think it's still worth joining (even if there are no women in the club) because I don't

really care about anything else in life except for music.

I tried an online dating service but the result was even worse than real life:

alll of my emails got ignored, no IMs ever responded. Real life is certainly a bit

better than that. :D

Hmmm. I bet getting a date is the hardest thing in life.

You like music? Do you play any instruments? If so, join a band or orchestra. If not, there are probably clubs close to you that get together to go see concerts and such. There is a HUGE part of the population out there that loves music. That's a start for you...
