Ross MwcFan
Due to anxiety, stress and worry, my heart is racing right now, my hands are clammy and I've got a slight pain in my chest. I'm worried that I may be in danger because I've been diagnosed with a heart murmur, I'm 36, not in the best shape, and my dad had a stroke when he was quite old. I'm worried I might have a heart attack or a stroke. I'd hate to survive and end up permently damaged by either happening.

Write a list of your concerns, questions and fears so when you do see your Dr you two can discuss this stuff. Nobody here can give you that answer, it's just going to freak you out more and make you worry.
HeavenOrHell
That's good Do talk to your GP though as whichwayisup said, if there's a history of heart problems in your family. Hopefully you think it was just a panic attack though, some people do think they're having heart attacks when they have panic attacks. It doesn't feel as bad now, thanks. Trust me, I've been there and had some pretty damn awful attacks, nearly called 911 once it got so bad but my H calmed me down and then I felt better.
Star Gazer
Ross, I have a heart murmur that hasn't affected my life whatsoever, except when coming back upright after handstands. Then I get a little lightheaded for a few seconds, but that's just as related to my lowish blood pressure. Stress, anxiety or worry don't really impact your valve, but could make you feel some palpitations and such. But talk to your doctor.
LittleTiger
Glad you're feeling better Ross - as everyone has said, you need to talk to your GP about what happened. I have a heart arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) which I've had all my life. I didn't get any symptoms when I was younger but, now I'm in my 40s, even though I am fit, I occasionally get a quick but uncomfortable feeling in my chest if my heart misses a beat and sometimes I get palpitations which can lead to light headedness and make me feel sick and dizzy. The first time this happened I was scared, which made the symptoms worse and I felt hot and sweaty too (probably a symptom of panic). I rang the doctor because I was alone at the time and didn't know what was happening. Another time I was at high altitude when the palpitations began. I nearly passed out and couldn't stand up. Fortunately I had my partner with me and he calmed me down so I didn't panic. Now that I know what symptoms to expect from my condition, I don't worry about it so much, so talk to your doctor and do some research on the internet. Even if your condition is minor it helps to know as much as possible about it so that you know which symptoms are normal and whether there is anything you can/should do if they appear. Author Ross MwcFan
Thanks everyone. I am going to be going to the hospital (not got a date yet), to get checked out because of the heart murmur. The next time I see my doc, I'll tell him what happened, and ask him if there is anything for me to worry about.
