Daremo_06
So I have a question for everyone about some of the zodiac compatibility charts you can find on dozens of sites. Some of them really really nail certain characteristics of people. Not just myself, but others as well. For example, I looked up the info on the last woman I was involved with and while she is a Libra like myself, once you get a more indepth chart (A natal chart I believe is what its called) it has a much more indepth description of what kinds of personality traits a particular person might have. It was absolutely amazing to read some of what it came up with. Nailed certain behaviors of hers perfectly and not all of them were good, but it still nailed them. So I then check what one of my friends would be, shes a Gemini and it nailed her too. I then tried to apply the previous Libra one to her. None of it fit her. I don't take serious stock in this stuff, but its a fun exercise and I am curious if everyone sees significant correlation with people in their lives the same way I do. Incidentally I have never gone to anyone for any sort of a reading and am not really even religious. Edited February 14, 2012 by Daremo_06
ThaWholigan
Haha, I've been interested in astrology since I was 10. It's actually quite accurate most of the time, even with free will considered. I haven't tended to look up other people's charts as you need their actual time of birth to get it accurate with the houses and everything, but I looked up my own natal chart, it makes for interesting reading. Do you know your moon and rising sign? Or your mars and venus??
Emilia
Come on guys, you do know there is nothing behind it and it's just hocus pocus, right? The reason why they ring true is that they are generally written in a way that would apply to anyone.
Author Daremo_06
Yes I do. Once I had that info, I got a much more detailed chart. Its quite interesting how many people seem to fit their sign. I know I embrace many of the Libra qualities and while my weighing both sides of a situation can be exhausting and frustraing to others and even myself at times, it helps balance my impulsive nature from ADHD. I also am a very strong believer in justice and will take a VERY strong stance against something I feel is "wrong" or unjust. Hard to tell if I evolved those characteristics separate of knowing about the libra sign qualities or if I was attracted to the description years ago and that skewed how I grew... The reason why they ring true is that they are generally written in a way that would apply to anyone. I don't think it's 100% accurate all the time (free will), but I did study it deeply and it goes far beyond 12 signs, you have to factor in the planets and their role in the chart, the houses, aspects, what planet is dignified in which sign etc.......it's quite fascinating, if a little bit airy-fairy lol
Philosoraptor
I can write very broad statements as well. It's the same principal as fortune tellers. You aim broad and you let the person listening do all of the work. You even say you are the one trying to find ways to apply broad statements to whomever.

I never thought I completely identified with my sign. I'm a Virgo and while the analytical side of things is correct, I'm far from a neat freak, I lack organization badly. This is because my rising sign is Pisces. My chart is all over the place though, I have a mars that is in it's strongest house AND sign inconjunct Pluto in it's strongest house and sign, which indicates tremendous power . My mars is retrograde though, which means that energy is difficult to have easy access too without extremely hard work on my part. It was at that point that I didn't doubt there was some truth to it. denise_xo
I don't take them seriously, but I find they can be a fun tools for discussing similarities and differences when you're with a partner. If often helps to have a 'neutral' symbol to refer to in those kind of conversations, it can help make it less personalised and more playful.
Almond_Joy
I give them earnest consideration, especially when you have more than just the sun sign, because 9 times out of 10 an individual's perosnality fits the convergence of their different signs (meaning the interplay of their Ascendant, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter signs)to a T. I wouldn't base a decision about interacting with someone on this information, but it's good information to have. Especially when you're dealing with reticent people. ja123
I'd be more interested in finding out their Myers-Briggs results. Here's where you can do the test for free, then just google your results. Keep in mind that if your percentages are close (e.g., introversion/extroversion scale), then you can look up the second-runner results as well. http://similarminds.com/jung.html
RRM
Unfortunately, I only have one friend's birth time, so I don't have very in-depth charts for my boyfriend, myself, or my other friends. But even if you have the day and the location of birth, you can place some planets. I find it pretty fascinating.
FitChick
The computer generated stuff can be interesting and whet your appetite but if you want your mind blown, spend the money (probably at least $200) and see a real astrologer, especially if you are doing something important like starting a company, moving and getting married. I like these two websites for information: Cafe Astrology* Astrology Signs, Horoscopes, Love and for free charts: Horoscope and Astrology - Homepage - Astrodienst
