The difference a therapist makes...

I've had a few other posts and comments here going through the trials and tribulations of the relationship between my wife and I. As in all situations, "it's complicated".

After her EA we went to marriage counseling until the counselor sort of quit. The good news is I persisted with insisting we find another one and we had our first session with the new one last evening...

This first session, which I had half expected would be spent doing admin/background work was in fact more productive than three months with the last counselor. Yes- it's just one session but I'm far more hopeful than I was back in December.

I guess I came here to say if you've been in counseling a while and it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere don't be afraid to switch. I'll follow up but at first dip it seems like we should have done this a while ago.

Agree completely. I would add that no matter what the reputation of a particular counselor, your experience could be quite different than someone else’s. Much of it isdependent on you and your spouse’s attitude, willingness to be open & honest and dedication to making it work.

I agree. Also, I think there are a lot of misconceptions about therapy in general. Take the time to do your homework and don't feel tied to a particular therapist. The goal should be for improvement. Getting to a place where that happens can take time.

I completely appreciate you, you should clear all your misunderstandings by making a serious conversation.

Fully agree. I don't have MC experience but have had IC at various points in time. A good therapist can be extremely powerful.
