What would you describe as too much makeup?

Agree with this.

Personally OP, I think what you listed sounds like too much. Then again, I am not a fan of makeup and I never wear it. I prefer to take care of what I have instead of spending time engaging in what I see as artificial enhancement that has only a temporary effect. As the guy above me says, YMMV.

I only wear lipstick and mascara. I've always taken care of my skin so I'm not a fan of face makeup. It feels dirty on my face.

Totally! Though if I wear eye makeup my eyes feel gritty and gross after awhile, so I don't use that either.

Yeah, I second this. :) I have to say that its effect works on many people though, temporary though it is. Sometimes the people don't even realize that what they're seeing is the illusion of makeup. But it takes years of experience, expensive purchases and cumulative hours of application to achieve that sort of level usually, and I'd frankly rather put all of that time, money and effort elsewhere, unless I suddenly decide to switch career paths to beautician or something. :)

 Personally, I usually LOVE the way the MAC girls (and boys) have their makeup. It would be more appropriate for a club than here on the farm, though….

I suppose it would be ok at a club...or any other environment with EXTREMELY dim lighting. Out and about on a day-to-day though? No freaking way. Most of those poor girls (and guys!) have their makeup caked on and I don't know why.

You shouldn't be able to tell that someone is wearing foundation from 5 feet away...

Yeah, I've seen those beauty blogs and YouTube vids where girls spend time detailing their routines and I'm thinking, "My goodness, how much money could you be saving in a year if you didn't spend so much of it on makeup?" But then they probably make a good bit of money from all the ads and traffic on their blogs.

I used to wear makeup when my skin was bad, but I had to get it through my head that taking care of my skin would give me greater benefits than spending money on temporary camouflage. I feel very comfortable now without makeup, and I do save money!

Nailed it right there, TA. :) I think makeup is necessary, even, for people in some career lines - the money they spend on it could be seen as an investment. I'm in the geek career line, though, and as long as I do my job I doubt anyone cares whether I look like Megan Fox or Susan Boyle. So, I'll skip on the $50 concealer and $30 brush sets for now...

Go to your local MAC counter. Those women are ALL wearing way too much makeup, even if done with a neutral palette.

Then head to the Chanel counter. Those women are wearing a good amount of makeup for a "special occasion," but definitely too much for day-to-day.

This! Especially at MAC. Love their stuff, but next time you're in Bloomies, take a look at any of their makeup artists if you wanna know what "too much makeup" looks like...yowza.

I wear MAC. I love it. I've also been told by only a very few men that they think I wear too much makeup. But I always have worn a lot of eyeshadow.

I wear foundation in the winter, just powder in the summer. I'm almost always touching it up and taking the shine off my face.

Yes, I shade in my eyebrows (but only to fill as I've overplucked over the years). I wear gel/liquid liner, about 4-6 colors of eyeshadow (blended well though). Blush, lipgloss (colored) but sometimes a more natural color if I wear dark eyes.

I own almost every eyeshadow color MAC makes and some old ones that they don't.

I guess it's just my thing.

I can also get all of this on and be ready out the door in 15 minutes.

Not wearing makeup would be like wearing the same clothes or hairstyle everyday. Boring.

I think the only makeup most men object to is sticky lip gloss or lipstick that smears when they kiss.

Yes, my BF even hates chapstick. But sometimes I don't care and when I meet him at the gym I give him a kiss with glittery lip gloss which is then on his lips the whole time we're working out....

I'm so bad...I know. :lmao:

Same here except it's just lipstick and eyeliner for me. The only time I ever wore face make-up was when I was 13 and going through a phase of wearing face powder.

I'm okay with my skin the way it is. I could probably make it look more 'flawless' with foundation or something, but I just don't want to.

I got addicted to lipstick about three years ago. I try to keep it subdued, though, by applying then blotting with a tissue a few times. Also, when I'm actually dating someone and expect to be kissing him, I wear it even more lightly so that he doesn't get any (or much) lipstick taste from me.

I would be very concerned if any man told me that they thought I wear too much makeup.

Wearing MAC doesn't ipso facto mean you wear too much. Technique is key. I wear MAC eyeshadow too (my daily shadow is MAC or Stila) and I've never been told by any man that I wear too much makeup. Even when I use 4 shades on my eyes, am very light-handed... Totally unlike the makeup artists at a MAC store or counter.

One of my closest girlfriends is a MAC freelance artist and a teacher, and she wears a full face even when not doing makeup. Her students even tease her about how much makeup she wears to teach. I can see her makeup from a distance. She even draws/dots on freckles over the foundation (which is caked on).

Thing is, her skin is porcelain perfect. She has absolutely no need for it. But to her, she feels naked without it, and really looks like a different person.

She also wears fake lashes like 5 days out of the week, which has totally damaged her natural lashes. They look horrible. :(

I don't say this to step on your tail SG, but just to make you aware of something you perhaps weren't aware of before.

I can remember that in some of your photos there was a contrast between how light your face looked and how tanned your neck and shoulders looked. I assumed that to be due to an over-application of make-up on your face. If it was, then that's too much in my opinion, because then it's too obvious and looks unnatural.

However, a woman shouldn't cover that contrast up by covering her neck and shoulders with clothing, since those are such graceful parts of a female body. Covering those up would be a shame.

Another thing that tends to tell me there's an over-application of make-up, but I don't think this applies to you though SG, is when the skin on the face doesn't show any highlights anymore.

Naturally skin tends to have a shiny highlight on it, which gives it a slight gloss due to natural oils in/on the skin, but it only shows subtly. When a woman applies too much make-up, then that shine completely disappears and the face becomes completely matted out. It's something I as a man tend to notice, so perhaps other guys do too.
