Peacocks at the gym

Lately I have noticed that a few of the men at the gym are strutting around like peacocks. It really hit me today when this buff guy kept walking in front of me, back to his machine, no matter which machine I was using. He kept checking to see if I was looking at him. :lmao:

I used to find the eye candy motivating. But they are beginning to distract me with all their struttin'. :p

They just annoy me, I try to avoid looking at them but it's difficult not to look over to see if they're still leering! This is why I bought an exercise bike and rowing machine and now do all of my working out at home :)

Well, yesterday, there was this one who just kept showboating. Eventually, he gets on the floor 10 feet in front of my machine and starts doing his one-arm pushups. So I just enjoyed the show while I did my set. He's begging for it, so why not?

I don't know if this one is fitness or body-building oriented. I guess fitness, because I've never seen one of those giant guys there. They're pretty much all trim, toned city boys, some of them very buff, but none huge.

It reeks of insecurity. Some dudes will work themselves to death before they'll chat up anyone outside the gym IRL. So, when they are there and know there muscles have just been engorged with blood, then and likely only then, do they try to attract someone that way rather than with courage, wit, or just comfort in their own skin. I work out now at Bally Total Fitness in VA Beach and it's not so bad as it was back in NY. Not to be ethnic or racial about it but there is a certain group whom especially takes their time strutting across the gym thinking they are in their absolute glory when there's nobody even there but someone like me. They even walk three abreast on the track going in the wrong direction from the sign--AND THEY WORKED THERE as PTers. Nauseating truly. I admire the handful of eyesore guys that throw themselves into the aerobics classes with all the women. They have some guts at least.

That guy wants you. Period.

I don't know. Maybe they are looking for a hookup. It's always the gorgeous guys who do the most strutting and make the most eye contact when I'm working out. I'm OK and I'm pretty fit, but some of these guys are just ridiculously good-looking.

Most women at the gym, if on their own, seem to be automatons, looking straight ahead and expressionalist. I think this is a learned defense mechanism. Whenever a woman at the gym looks at me and smiles, it somehow seems a much stronger signal than at a grocery store or wherever.

I was like this for a while, but now I will make eye contact sometimes. And you're right -- just LOOKING at them ONCE seems to be signal enough for them to start flapping around and showing off. Maybe next I will try checking one out during his set, then smiling at him when he's done. I would like to see what he'd do next.

On another note of gym etiquette. What Ive noticed is that there are males and females that I'll never talk to at the gym. However. once I've said 'Hi' even once , they are 'gym friends' after that. Social interaction in a gym is kind of quirky.

Interesting. I have never talked to anyone at the gym, other than some old ladies in the hot tub one day. Maybe I should make some gym "friends". haha

I've been running across women whose bodies are amazing. Really nice looking in their yoga pants. Long, healthy hair. And then I get a look at their faces, and they are old enough to be my aunt. It's kind of mind-bending.

I don't notice a whole lot of vanity at my gym. Kind of weird. People seem to be serious about their workouts. The guys who kind of bug me are the unnaturally tanned, gym rat types.

Hahah, men and women are guilty of this...at my new gym since moving to California, I just look at what these women are wearing...seriously...?! There's no way you'd be wearing that unless you were trying to show off your goods...
