Strength training for women

Recommended Posts

(1) My advice is not to get serious weight training, body transformation info from a dating site. It's conflicting because you are asking people who are not well educated in the fitness world.

While I get what you're saying here, there are at least a few folks on here that appear to have a decent grasp on fitness principles. Perhaps you're one of them yourself, being a bodybuilder type. From what I've seen, I'd wager to say that there is at least as much conflicting information and ignorant/uninformed posters on some of the bigger "bodybuilding" websites (BB.com/T-nation/etc.).

The nice thing about this particular physical fitness subforum forum is that most of the posters on here are genuine and intelligent. Even if they tend to be more inexperienced than some of the folks you'll find on dedicated fitness websites, they tend to be a receptive and articulate audience.

The atmosphere of this forum can be more conducive to pointing beginners in the right direction than some of the larger sites. I've seen countless newbies get completely torched on T-Nation for asking seemingly benign questions, never to be heard from again. What kind of way is this to treat a beginner in any activity? The "holier than thou" attitudes found on many of these larger sites are a good way to not only turn away someone who is interested in our respective sports/lifestyles, but it also paints the fitness community in a negative light. In addition, BB.com and T-Nation are completely inundated with conflicting opinions and "research" from not only the poster base, but from the people writing articles for them (who tend to be credible, experienced, educated, and well certified in their particular specialties). As such, it's very, very difficult for someone without a lot of time under a barbell to discern what information applies and is beneficial to them, and what is a waste of their time.

What's the harm in using this unexpected medium to help project some of the knowledge and experience someone such as yourself as gained in your years in fitness?

Women should train similar to the way men train if they want that toned up sexy look. Trust me, Ive trained several woman this way and they all look great now. Women might want to do more cardio than a guy since they tend to be more fat conscious than guys. Thats the only difference, other than that, compound lifts, varying rep scheme, progressive wieght loading, and high protein diet. HIIT cardio to boot.

I can post some before after pics of old clients of mine to show.

I TOTALLY agree with you. The reason I made my suggestion is because I knew she would get conflicting information in here, and if she is somewhat new to the game, she could easily be confused by conflicting opinions. If I say "I'm a bodybuilder listen to me", she still has to trust that I know more than others in here, and I didn't want her to make that assumption, and I don't want to post in here "I know I'm right, so and so is wrong". Figured its much more sound and logical to direct this person, who DOES want to take this very serious, to a place where everyone will be sharing consistent information, and she can have confidence in knowing she's getting good advice. I guess maybe my polite way of saying I know what you need to do, just go read it in a place where several professionals will back me up.

PS - don't hang at any of those forums, cannot comment much on them. Searched a number of them over the years, have a couple main ones that I stick with, and these are places real fitness pro's go. Many in there arrogant buttholes, but many are there to help everyone. However once again, advice very consistent.
