Experiences with Ouija boards

What do you think? A mindless diversion, or a dangerous portal into a dark side of spirituality. Any scary or freaky experiences you have had with one?

It's what you believe it to be.

I've always thought it to be a puerile waste of time. Done it a few times, nothing has ever happened.... pathetic.

I had a friend who 'believed' in spiritual things such as dark forces, ghosts, spirits, poltergeists - and naturally, she's had several freaky experiences - but, of course, she would say that, wouldn't she?

All under scrutiny, perfectly explicable.

It's tosh.

I am finding this to be true in many aspects of life. Your perception is your reality.

****************************************************

So the Ouija board stories I have are this:

Used them as a kid, they were very popular in the 1970's. Nothing weird ever happened, but it was always spooky at the time with the lights off and just the ghostly glow of flashlights around (at the sleepover party of course).

Another incident would be - my kooky neighbor said that as a kid, she saw her Ouija board rise off the bed by itself, and fling itself into a wall. She was on the other side of the room at the time. Take that with a grain of salt though, she was very kooky (messed up in the head, and an attention seeker telling tall tales for attention).

The last incident I know of regarding Ouija boards are stories my ex-husband told me.

He swears he and his ex-wife used them and were contacted by spirits. He SWEARS he witnessed, on more than one occasion, his ex-wife's mother using the Ouija board every night (they were living with her at the time), and sat the board on her lap, and the arrow thingy moved by itself. Not just a little nudge of a movement either. The arrow supposedly moved rapidly, all over the board, for a sustained period of time, delivering messages to her. Night after night. Her hands were not touching the arrow AT ALL -she was often holding a beer at the time, as she was a big alcoholic.

I take that with a grain of salt as well, because my ex-husband was a liar and I never knew what to believe with him. But I did question him about it off and on over the years, and he always stuck by his story. When I spoke to his ex-wife, I believe she confirmed witnessing this. She was kooky too though, so its hard to know for sure. They were both attention seekers full of outlandish stories that often got them attention.

So I've no idea either way what a Ouija board is capapble of, because the folks who told me the stories about them, couldn't be trusted to always tell the truth about things.

Cheers!

I would say it is the former!

you know, not too long ago I went to this party... the girls busted out a ouija board, but during this time, I ate something that didn't sit right with me so my friend put me in her bed and they resumed playing...

I woke up, the house was freezing (not because there were spirits but because it's on the beach) so I wrapped the blanket around myself and went downstairs... the place was dark, they were playing the game with candles... I wasn't purposely trying to creep up on them but when I said aloud; "so did we make contact??" everyone screamed and started running in all sorts of directions... apparently just before I headed down, the board had said "TREES TAN was coming"... well everyone had thought it was TREES and then TAN and were laughing about it... none of the knuckleheads pieced together that the board spelled my name wrong... Tristan...

coincidence? maybe... but none of us will ever forget it, lol...

I must confess i did have one of these when i was a teenager and i thought i was interested in the occult and all that. Tried it a few times with friends (with the lights out and some candles lit to add to the effect, as you do) and it did move, the only thing was the giggles from around the table sort of gave the game away a bit. I did subsequently try it by myself and of course it didn't move one single millimeter. I really don't think there was "anybody there".

I made my own out of paper, when I was a kid, and nothing ever happened directly with that.

I do believe in spirits, though. That's what I'm doing in this particular forum right now: last week, I searched for posts about ghosts, and found a few threads that I wanted to get back to.

My mother told me she played that once and some type of spirit was perceived.

But the ouiji board really is a registered trademark of Hasbro which sells Ouija Boards as board games. In other words, it's a toy played by anyone of all ages.

As far as the sudden movements, that can be explained by the ideomoter effect. This means muscle movements that occur outside of conscious awareness. Such unconscious movements are self generated, and can create the illusion that an outside force is moving a Ouija board planchette.
