Highest content, best tasting protein powder?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to gift a friend of mine who is heavy about working out, protein powders, etc and I dont know what to get. I know that he doesnt really like the taste of most of them so it would be nice to get something that has HIGH protein content and also great taste. Id rather get something with high protein content though if theres only lowcontent/good tasting proteins out there since most powders seem to taste like chalk anyway according to him.

Thanks!

While I've been diminishing my supplemental protein intake lately (replacing it with whole food sources), one of the better powders I remember trying in terms of flavor was MetRX's chocolate peanut butter flavored Ultramyosyn Whey: ULTRAMYOSYN® WHEY - PEANUT BUTTER CUP - 2 lbs | MET-Rx - Shaping Every Body.

Honestly though, I prefer simple Dymatize whey, as I feel it is "cleaner". It's very basic, the price is fair, it tastes good, and it's versatile in usage (we bake stuff all the time with it). The secret to a great tasting protein shake is what you're mixing it with and in what proportions.

I'll second fucpcg's suggestion about BSN and Cytosport products, though they may be a little sweet if the guy you're buying for wants to use them for more than just putting in PWO shakes.

Also, I would recommend price shopping around. Bodybuilding.com usually has decent prices.

I have had quite a few MetRX bars when I was in dire straits for protein (such as traveling, etc.). I haven't tried the apple pie yet, but I'll keep an eye out for it. They're protein brownies taste pretty awesome, despite being terrible if you're trying to cut.

If you use protein bars a lot, you might want to check out Quest Bar. A buddy of mine is one of their "sponsored athletes" (i.e., he sells the stuff and they use his picture on their website, haha), so I've been able to sample a bunch of those.

Even if my friend wasn't a rep for them, my unbiased opinion is that they are the best protein bar I've had, hands down, both in terms of taste and quality. One of the reasons I like them so much is that they do not have any sort of dipped coating (they're pretty much homogenous in textures), which makes them a lot less messy if I ever have them in a hot environment (such as a hot car, plane, backpacking, etc.). They're also made of very basic ingredients and resemble "real" food much better than any other bar I've had.

Cytosport's Muscle Milk has always been my favorite tasting product...though I've been using MHP's Up Your Mass weight gainer and Probolic protein powders for the last year or so...I will probably stick with them for a while...

Yea Myofusion not bad tasting, and it's a good protein. Don't worry squats are the king of exercises, just not easy. You have to have a screw loose to do them heavy and with weekly dedication, but I'm screwed loose.
