The pain Jesus suffered :(

Hello,

 

This weekend, many Christians are remembering what we believe happened concerning the suffering and pain Jesus endured: Jesus, who we believe is the Messiah, the King who God promised to be on the throne of King David forever, the Son of God.

 

We believe that Jesus fulfills and will fulfill the prophesies that God gave to the Israelite people. Even though I understand that many Jewish people do not accept Jesus, and they have their reasons, and they are to be respected and loved and not persecuted or killed or hurt for it. Sad to say, many "Christians" have persecuted and hurt and forced converted and killed others for not being their kind of "Christian."

 

However, even if you are an Atheist or a person of another belief in God, maybe you are interested in what Christians believe and why, though of course you do not agree. Below are some of the prophesies that Christians believe Jesus fulfills, including the pain and suffering he endured for us.

 

1 Chronicles 17 (NIV) - I boldened some.

 

" “‘I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you: 11 When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors,

I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. 13 I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him,

as I took it away from your predecessor. 14 I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.’”

 

15 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation. "

 

Psalm 2 (NIV) - I boldened some.

 

"4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;

the Lord scoffs at them.

5 He rebukes them in his anger

and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,

“I have installed my king

on Zion, my holy mountain.”

 

7 I will proclaim the LORD’s decree:

 

He said to me, “You are my son;

today I have become your father.

8 Ask me,

and I will make the nations your inheritance,

the ends of the earth your possession. "

 

Psalm 89 (NIV) - I boldened some.

 

"19 Once you spoke in a vision,

to your faithful people you said:

“I have bestowed strength on a warrior;

I have raised up a young man from among the people.

20 I have found David my servant;

with my sacred oil I have anointed him.

21 My hand will sustain him;

surely my arm will strengthen him.

22 The enemy will not get the better of him;

the wicked will not oppress him.

23 I will crush his foes before him

and strike down his adversaries.

24 My faithful love will be with him,

and through my name his horn[f] will be exalted.

25 I will set his hand over the sea,

his right hand over the rivers.

26 He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father,

my God, the Rock my Savior.’

27 And I will appoint him to be my firstborn,

the most exalted of the kings of the earth.

28 I will maintain my love to him forever,

and my covenant with him will never fail.

29 I will establish his line forever,

his throne as long as the heavens endure. "

 

Psalm 22 (NIV) - I boldened some and placed references to where Christians believe Jesus fulfills specific prophesies, accounted in the New Testament.

All my bones are on display;

people stare and gloat over me.

18 They divide my clothes among them

and cast lots for my garment.

19 But you, LORD, do not be far from me.

You are my strength; come quickly to help me.

20 Deliver me from the sword,

my precious life from the power of the dogs.

21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;

save me from the horns of the wild oxen.

 

22 I will declare your name to my people;

in the assembly I will praise you.

23 You who fear the LORD, praise him!

All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!

Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!

24 For he has not despised or scorned

the suffering of

the afflicted one;

he has not hidden his face from him

but has listened to his cry for help.

those who seek the LORD will praise him—

may your hearts live forever!

Isaiah 52 (NIV) - I boldened some.

 

" 13 See, my servant will act wisely[Or will prosper];

he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.

Just as there were many who were appalled at him[Hebrew you]—

his appearance was

disfigured beyond that of any human being

and his form marred beyond human likeness—

he will sprinkle many nations,[Or

will many nations be amazed at him (see also Septuagint)]

and kings will shut their mouths because of him.

For what they were not told, they will see,

Isaiah 53 (NIV) - I boldened some and placed references from New Testament in parenthesis)

 

" 1 Who has believed our message

and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,

and like a root out of dry ground.

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,

nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.

Like one from whom people hide their faces

he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

 

4 Surely he took up our pain

and bore our suffering,

yet we considered him punished by God,

stricken by him, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,

he was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was on him,

and by his wounds we are healed.

6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,

each of us has turned to our own way;

and the LORD has laid on him

the iniquity of us all.

yet he did not open his mouth;

he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,(John 1 :29)

 

and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,

he did not open his mouth. (Matthew 26:62-63)

8 By oppression[Or From arrest] and judgment he was taken away.

Yet who of his generation protested?

For he was cut off from the land of the living;

for the transgression of my people he was punished.[Or generation considered / that he was cut off from the land of the living, / that he was punished for the transgression of my people?]

9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,

and with the rich in his death,

though he had done no violence,

nor was any deceit in his mouth.

Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,

and though the LORD makes[Hebrew though you make] his life an offering for sin,

he will see his offspring and prolong his days,

and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

After he has suffered,

he will see the light of life[Dead Sea Scrolls (see also Septuagint); Masoretic Text does not have the light of life.] and be satisfied[Or (with Masoretic Text) He will see the fruit of his suffering / and will be satisfied];

by his knowledge[Or by knowledge of him]

my righteous servant will justify many,

and he will bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,[Or many]

and he will divide the spoils with the strong,[Or numerous]

because he poured out his life unto death,

and was numbered with the transgressors.

For he bore the sin of many,

and made intercession for the transgressors. "

(Matthew 1:20-21)

 

The miraculous birth of Jesus (which most Christians celebrate during the holiday Christmas) and the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus (which most Christians remember and celebrate on Easter) are extremely important beliefs that Christians have concerning Jesus.

 

Sad to say, some "Christians" have persecuted and murdered Jewish people, calling them "Christ killers.' However, true Christians understand the following points:

 

1. Jesus, his mother Mary, his 12 apostles, and the early Christians are all Jewish (descendants of Israel/Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham)

2. We all "killed" Jesus, everyone, not just the Jewish people... we all did, with the Roman soldiers being specifically those who did. Our sins are what hurt and killed him.

3. There are till this day Jewish believers in Jesus, as well as Gentiles by God's grace. (See Acts 10 and Acts 15, when the first Gentile believers "officially" believed in Jesus.) Jesus' suffering is NOT to motivate his followers to kill or hurt others NO, but rather Christians believe that because of Jesus' suffering and death, God forgives us of our sins through the blood Jesus shed once for all. Christians believe that Jesus' suffering and death fulfills the animal sacrifices God commanded the Israelites to do in from the time of Moses. (See the Torah)

 

Christians believe that God loves people

so

much that through Jesus' suffering and death, He felt physical pain like people all over the world sadly and tragically feel pain. Terribly, thousands and thousands of people all over the world through generations have felt pain through torture, rape, disease, murder, and

so

on. Christians believe that God felt pain for us, because of His love and mercy for us, through the pain Jesus endured. However, Christians also believe that God rose Jesus from the dead and that people will one day rise from the dead too!

 

So

, even though this may not be what you believe, maybe it helps you understand a little better what Christians believe?

 

Even though you may totally 100% disagree with all the above, could you please respect it? If you would like to explain in a courteous and intellectual way why you disagree, that would be interesting to read why. This thread is NOT to persuade you to believe what I and other Christians believe, but rather to explain a little why Christians believe it.
