Hi Everyony

I boke up with the EX 3 weeks ago (we were only dating for 2-3 months (knew her for around 5 months). So its not that long BUT somethign interesting hapened. Last week she broke NC and bacically asked if I slept around and if I had STI's,,, I was like WTF I dont do that so with that I rand to the doctors and got a blood test. Anyway I got the results 2 days ago.

I am in perfect health but there was something strange my doctor said I was Vitamin 4 deficent to the point of almost critical (23 units if that means anything to anyway apparently you need around 50-100). You see a month prior to that I had 5 wisdom teeth out (yes 5 long story) but my blood work came back perfect.

How can I go from good to chronic in that department. Well my mum did some research and discovered that a lack of vit D can cause depression. I said to my mum that I was over her (still hurt) but my mind always seems clouded and I feel helpless to move forward.

Anyway as of a few hours ago I bought some over the counter vit D and then a second tablet a few hours later. To be honest the first time in months (even pre-dating the relationship) I felt so happy and my mind was clear.

I know it doesn’t solve anything but for the first time I can think and dont feel inhibited as I have for in months. I feel like I can focus on my goals without waking up at night with emotionally disturbing sleep disturbances.

I am writing this because it really helped and I will take them and go in the sun more over the next week to bolster my Vit D. Again it wont solve anything directly but I feel my mind clear and I am starting to see a picture of possibilities. If it helps anyone then I am happy

Vitamin D is a very important vitamin and I started taking it for similar reasons after I heard it can help with mood and immune function, but I will say, I think you're experiencing a bit of a placebo effect thinking you felt happier after only 2 pills. It takes days of taking the vitamin at a pretty high dose to get your blood serum levels to change at all. But hey, what does it matter, as long as you're feeling better. Just keep taking it to make sure your levels actually get back into normal range.

Double dose your vitamin D, you can never have enough. And yes vitamin D defiency can make you feel tired and have depression.

Glad you're feeling better!

Have you actually looked at the results from the pre-surgery blood tests? Around here, the Vitamin D test is not part of a routine. basic blood panel, which may be all they did prior to your surgery, as a general wellness check, White Blood Cell count (infection), Liver Function Tests, etc... So unless you've actually looked at those pre-surgery blood results and saw a good Vitamin D level - or did they just tell you "everything is normal"? - then you may well have been Vitamin D deficient back then, too.

Anyway as of a few hours ago I bought some over the counter vit D and then a second tablet a few hours later. To be honest the first time in months (even pre-dating the relationship) I felt so happy and my mind was clear.

I tend to agree with Exit, above, about the placebo effect. I thought I understood that Vitamin D levels accruing to supplementation build slowly - over days - although I can't find a good reference to that now.

However, having said all that, I'm a big Vitamin D proponent. I live in a moderately Northern latitude, and due to that and our weather patterns, we get relatively low sunlight exposure, on average. So I take 1500 IU/day myself.

And beyond that, I'll say that your idea to go out and get some more sun (responsibly, with respect to skin cancer exposure, of course) sounds like a good idea. Sunlight and fresh air are often also associated with some kind of physical activity (read: exercise) which is also one of the first prescriptions for someone who has mild depression. So yes: get out, get some fresh air and sunshine, and move around some. It can't hurt, and it seems pretty likely that it will help lift your spirits, at least a little bit, eh?

Wow...I recently found out I was Vitamin D deficient and have started taking 1.25MG of VD once a week and I feel ALOT better depression wise. Thats crazy. Good to know!

Side note - I've also been taking Natural Well Being for Anxiety & Stress and it is working WONDERS (in case you guys were looking for herbal supplements!)

Most people taking antidepressants would be better off financially and side effects wise if they switched to Vitamin D. I've taken it for years and had been told many years ago that my depression was "genetic" since everyone in my family was depressed when I was growing up. I'm the only happy one now. Coincidence? It's only recently that the medical establishment has realized the importance of this vitamin and of nutrition in general when it comes to overall health.

Oh, good point!

Don't eat them then if you're that concerned about contaminants.

What do you look for in a good quality vitamen as they all seem to be poluted and scams.

You've asked an impossible question, incorporating a contradictory assumption. If you perceive them "all" to be polluted and scams, then it will be awfully hard to convice you that there can be any good quality ones.

I eat them just not on a daily basis like a pill. I was just reading about Lanolin but I think I'm just going to keep making my vitamen D the old fashioned way by making sure to regularly go out and get some sun.

That actually makes very good sense, if you can do it. Where I live, we can go months during the winter without direct sunshine.

best way to get vitamin D?... From the sun.

I used to get really down in the winter. There`s even a condition now for it...SAD

seasonal affective disorder.

Basically it`s caused by lack of vitamin D.

Best place to get it is from sunshine....thats why everyone feels better when the suns shining!!

Foods that do contain vitamin D...and there aren`t a lot and they are in such small quantitys you need to eat a LOT

oily fish, eggs, mushrooms( esp button and ****take)

ANY decent multi vitamin ( make sure it actually contains vitamin D , NOT all do) will suffice.

Have to agree that one hour of sunshine regularly is the best way to get your daily dose of Vit. D.

Plus it takes anywhere between 4-6 weeks for the body to absorb the OTC vitamin D into your blood, which is why you'll need to get regular blood work done every few months. With the natural sunlight, it gets absorbed much faster.

Where I live has long winters (Nov-April), so I take a daily OTC Vit. D. But I also eat foods with it too.

Vit. D. has a ton of health benefits. Your doc should do a baseline blood test to see how deficient you are before you start. Then he/she will measure your blood work every few months to make sure you aren't getting too much/or too little.

Don't be put off by the marketing on Vit. D bottles. Ask your pharmacist which brand is trustworthy if you're that scared about fillers and preservatives. And some brands list the preservatives used in their vitamins. You just need to learn how to read labels correctly.

Vitamin D lack treatment solution

That will require the following components. It's essential to seek the advice of your expert in nutrition in case of vitamin D insufficiency.

Sunburn may be the outcome of excessive contact with Sun. It will also cause premature growing older.

Significant amount of this vitamin will be supplied by number of ingredients. Eggs, milk products, liver, plus some oily species of fish are foods having this important vitamin. Margarine is really a excellent alternative of butter in your daily diet plan. Cod liver oil provides some sum of vitamin D, but it features a better sum of vit a. A lot of people have this specific disbelief that surplus level of cod liver fish oil results in vitamin D overdose however it will be the retinol or vit a that causes bone complications.

• In the purely natural sort, cholecalciferol doesn't have considerable function on the fat burning capacity, as an alternative this is a metabolic unit (calcitriol) which carries out the actual main capabilities. It is usually transformed into calcitriol in just two basic steps, the earliest within the liver and the other within the kidneys.

• Calcitriol or bioactive vitamin D supplements is often a type of steroid ointment hormones given the task of intended for very nearly 10 % body's genes (i.e., roughly 2000 family genes) from the complete genomic content material in the total body. Additionally, it controls the vitamin metabolic process of your physique.

• You'll find a lot of different types of vitamin d3, which vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) together with vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) are most crucial for our own body.

• Ergocalciferol is created by the herbs, as opposed to, cholecalciferol is created in the epidermis just after being exposed to sun rays. Supplements could have some of the several sorts of cholecalciferol, or now and then each.

• For those who're not constantly in contact with natural light, a vitamin d-3 health supplement of 5,000 units every day is recommened, which often accounts to 50 portions of ordinary whole milk, or 12 cups of fortified milk products, or 12 multi-vitamin pills everyday.

• Just for instance sun lotion that have an common SPF element, sitting down in any vehicle or remaining inside of the your home affects vitamin d3 creation. It is because, cup does not let transmission of Ultra violet rays and contact the skin.

My doctor says that everyone in the northern half of the US (and similar climes) should be taking a Vitamin D supplement. There simply aren't enough sunny days for us to make sufficient vitamin D.

It's a simple and cheap blood test, and more doctors are doing the test now. For me, it took 2 years of taking 5000 IU/day to get my vitamin D level to where my doctor wants it. So it's not trivial. You can't fix it by just getting a little more sun.

Plus, it's cheap. A good vitamin D supplement will cost about $20/year. (Make sure to get the gelcap kind. The dry white pills don't actually have much vitamin D in them).

I agree with those who recommend getting out in the sunshine more. Hopefully the area where you live gets plenty of sun. Maybe there's some outdoor activity that you like to do?

My vitamin D reading about a year ago was 8. (It's supposed to be between 30 and 100). Since then, I've spent more time outdoors, and take a D3-5000IU softgel supplement daily as recommended by my doctor. My annual checkup is coming up soon, so hopefully my vit D level has improved.
