dizy
So as the title suggests. I am totally confused by the situation. I am having some trouble looking at my own pictures because I find myself really unattractive on the pictures but when I look into the mirror in real life, I dont think that Im ugly. and to be honest I am really annoyed by this realization. Wats wrong with me? I mean maybe im not photogenic but I do think that the pictures reflect quite well the reality since other people are in them and I think that they look the same in real life, but not myself? anyone having the same prob? its just each time that I look at my pictures I begin to think that Im ugly, but when I look at the mirror I don't
casanovadude81
Some people look better in pictures than they do in person. If you look good in real life but can't seem to take a good picture I wouldn't worry about it. What you can do is just take or have some one take many pictures of yourself just doing different things and even making the same face over and over again. I'm sure you're bound to get atleast one half way decent on. You arn't a picture. You're a person. People will judge you on how attractive they find you in person. OLD does place a lot on a picture but still I wouldn't worry about it. You don't have to do OLD and honestly you'd have better luck not relying on it.
january2011
Here's a post I made from a previous thread on this topic: The nature of the technology can distort the output image/voice. I'm not up to date with current theory, but from what I remember, there's a psychological concept regarding "me vs. not me" that may be relevant here. http://www.loveshack.org/forums/mind-body-soul/physical-fitness-health-weight-management/258059-mirror-vs-photos

The pics where I do think I look attractive, I still think they look nothing like how I look in the mirror. To add further to the confusion, if I look in the mirror, and use another mirror to reflect the reflection, so it puts everything the right way around (how I'll probably look to others), my face looks ugly and assymetrical. PelicanPete
There are lot of factors to consider about the whole thing. The mirror, the camera, the lighting, what you're wearing, and most importantly your own perceptions of yourself. There's the whole psychological debate of appearance vs reality. What we see vs what is actually there. What is important to consider however, is that there is no one reality. "What is actually there" is technically other peoples perceptions, and those perceptions are varied and unique just as our own. It's funny. You can consider peoples outlooks just like mirrors and cameras. Maybe some people see you this way, some people see you another way. It all depends on how they were made. The only real important thing is how you see yourself. Surround yourself with people that see you in a similar way, and you'll be happy.
fflolhaha
I am having some trouble looking at my own pictures because I find myself really unattractive on the pictures but when I look into the mirror in real life, I dont think that Im ugly. I actually have this very same problem. But I'm a dude, I know it's not hip for dudes to care but I hear what you're saying. I think, personally I think it's digital. Cause, I'm old school.. I grew up when REAL pictures were taken on film. I loved my own pics when it was on film lol. But soon as digital cams came, it's like.. you see the texture of your skin, the creases, weird shapes, shadows in strange places, weird hair, the hair looks like it's metal wires. I see my boogers all hanging out. lol.. jk So yeah... blame it on technology. Let's return to film, and 24 hour photo booths!!! Long live the 80s!!
FitChick
If your camera has a self timer, pose in several different ways to see which looks the most flattering. Everyone has a good side because most people don't have perfectly symmetrical faces. For example, Barbra Streisand only allows the left side of her face to be photographed. Look at red carpet photos of celebs, male or female depending which you are, and mimic them for your full body shots. Try natural or artificial lighting.
Jadempk
I'm the opposite....I hate looking at myself in the mirror but in photos I don't actually look to bad. I'd rather be better looking in real life...lol:p
