theedge
Okay, this is how society has made us. I usually go against the grain of what society thinks. Here is my situation. I met a girl through an online dating service last fall. We added each other to IM's just as chat buddies and to kill time. I was sorta of seeing someone and so was she but we never got in to personal info about each other. To be honest we didn't really chat too much probably due to being in relationships. After a few months we almost stopped talking all together for some reason. Anyway, in April I saw her in the site's chat room. We started talking again somewhat more frequently. For some reason this time we actually clicked, and became more personal. We both mentioned that at the time we were both seeing someone and broke up recently. I am a bit odd in a sense that if I find that think someone is out of my league I am more confident. This theory also applies to someone I am not interested in, in her case she seemed to far away and I don't like long distance. Me nor her drive so I figured it wouldn't be worth the effort. After putting more thought in to it recently I realize she isn't all that far, maybe 1 hr max by transit. As the days were going by we seemed to be getting closer. I then decided to ask for her number as she wasn't long distance. We talked and got along great. In the whole time we talked though we never mentioned simple things like How tall are you? I ended up asking her and hers where our problem comes in. I being male and on the shorter side of 5'5 and very slim. She I know is not slim, I don't have a problem with that either, but she is about 5'10 or so. Instantly in my case society came in to light and how odd we would look. We both had to philosophy of 1st meeting should never be considered a date even before this chemistry came up. We both have a desire to meet, but I guess this shouldn't be an issue seeing that we aren't dating. I do like her though and think the potential for dating is there. I have been in this situation before and when we meet in person, the other person usually gets wierded out by the difference. I guess for the time being until we meet I have to just let it be. If you were in this situation would you care? Does society pull your strings? By my thread here it sounds like I fear the opposite, but really I don't.
faux
Saying that I am 5'5" is being a tiny bit gracious I have dated a lot of women who were taller than me. I'm interested in someone now who is 5'7", and she thinks the height difference is cute. Besides, it is ME as a whole that she admires, and height does not make a huge difference. I have dated women who were 6'1", 5'11", 5'10, all the way down anywhere in between to 5'2". I would say go along with what happens when you two meet. There is no issue about society or your height yet. See how things go before worrying over it. I only had to deal with the "we look funny together" thing once, and that was due to a parent's constant nagging about it.
