Women, hair and relationships

Recommended Posts

I'm not entirely sure where to post this so I hope nobody feels offended by my placing it here.

I've heard it said that women change their hair dramatically either in anticipation of, or in the wake of, big changes in their lives. I know several women who cut their hair short after divorce, for example. Though clearly women can and do change their hairstyles for other reasons too.

I was driving past my ex-wife's house the other day (it's on a main road, I wasn't stalking her!) and I noticed a "for sale" sign outside so I slowed to look to see if it was her house for sale or the neighbours. At that moment she walked out and got into her car to drive off and I noticed she'd cut and coloured her hair very vividly (she was grey before).

The house for sale. Her hair so very different. It seemed that there may be big changes in her life but I've heard nothing. The kids know nothing, even about the sale of the house. It's not a good time to sell houses and she's unlikely to get her full asking price, particularly on a busy main road with so much traffic and noise.

My wife asked if the new hairstyle suited her and I said yes I thought it did. She said that it could be a new relationship and that the changes may be coming from a good place, moving on now the kids are grown. But I worry that it may be that she can no longer afford the house, or that she's moving because she would rather be far away from us, or that she is in an unhappy frame of mind. We parted on very bad terms so I can't phone her up to ask her and none of our friends are in contact with her anymore and I don't want to stalk her to find out. I really hope she's OK.

In your experience, would someone be more likely to make such dramatic changes if they were feeling happy and positive or if they were in a bad place and trying to regain control over their lives?

Not trying to sound mean, but why do you care? She is your ex wife and you are remarried. Let it go.

Could not agree more. Not in a nasty way, but it is no longer your business. And besides, no one can tell you why she has done those things - it could be for either reason. Leave her to it.
