Physical vs. Aesthetic goals

I don't care much about aesthetics. I work out to make myself feel healthy and it helps fight my depression. After I finish my last set of squats/deadlift/pullups/bench/etc I feel like I did something productive and it beats down the negative thoughts/energy I carry around to a more manageable level. I have no interest in working out just to get a 6 pack and toned arms.

I exercise to look good since I know how shallow men are. ;)

The mental and physical positive effects are a bonus.

Me too.

When I started, it was a different story. I don't lift anywhere near the poundage I use to when my goal was always to lift heavier and heavier...getting bigger and bigger until I started hearing comments from girls about being too big and veiny. For a while, I went with the crowd of other guys that concluded "don't lift for chicks, lift for yoos." So instead of lifting for chicks, I was lifting for me, which was really lifting for what other guys where thinking lifting should be, so I was lifting for other guys approval within the gym. We size each other up all the time. I finally didn't care about that and lifted for chicks instead, which is actually lifting for me.

Yes, I lift almost purely for aesthetics. There is a balance I go for and an overall look of lean and tight. I don't care if the bulky guy can lift more weight than me or the super skinny guy can run a marathon faster than me. My purpose in the gym is to mold my body to make girls wet in the crotch area and if you think men are shallow about looks, you should see the tranced/spaced out stares that some women have when eyeballing a well thought out male body.

I started out to get strong then over time realized it was pure aesthetics I was craving, do that's what I go for. Besides its more challenging, and more rewarding. Besides at 6'4 Id have to be over 270 lbs of pure muscle to be considered "big" by bodybuilding standards. Im stuck in the 200 lb zone so I just try to get as shredded as possible at that weight.

I see too many guys who only concentrate on chest, shoulders, lats and abs, totally ignoring their lower body. Walking on their skinny chicken legs, they look like they are about to fall over. I know a guy who walks with his arms flapping at a 45 degree angle because he can't lower them. Chicken wings to go with his chicken legs!

An Asian with a big booty?!;)

I admit I excercise for aesthetics but I really really really want to change that. I struggle to find entertainment in excercise so I see it as a chore :o and therefore cannot seem to make it a part of my daily life.

I always have to drag myself to the gym but then again, I always leave with a pep in my step! Gotta love those endorphins!! :D

My lower body has always been exceptionally muscular (butt is huge too ), which is fortunate if a little irritating when it comes to trousers lol. I do need to beef up in the upper body as well as minimize the belly fat.

Good for squats and deads. You should be rejoicing!

Yea. And it's made of a material that sits next to titanium on the periodic table.
