january2011
Traditionally, in psychological research*, the terms "ethnicity," "race" have been used interchangeably. "American" is a nationality. It is used to further segment an ethnic/racial group by geographical location, such as Asian American or African American, etc. Well, this what I wrote in both my BSc and MSc dissertations - so it must be right because that's what the lecturers, books and research papers taught us! I will say that there has been a lot of debate over the definitions and at one point, there was a trend where any ethnic group that was not 'white', was referred to as Black, including all Asians. So if the experts are still debating it, I think it's fair to say that we're not going to know any better and it is acceptable to use the terms interchangeably. It has also been problematic in the psychological research because there is a heavy reliance on subjects to self-identify with a particular group rather than being classified 'objectively' by researchers. And with all the globe-trotting we do these days, it can be very difficult to segment groups along ethnic and racial lines. *I don't know if the psychologists and anthropologists have ever agreed or whether the OP is more aligned with one camp over the other. Author DuchessKaye
I never really hear white people say "I had a bad dating experience(s) with people of my race and only date X race." I heard this so many times from many white men that I know of. Especially the ones that are now dating Asians.
LZ2000
I heard this so many times from many white men that I know of. Especially the ones that are now dating Asians. Cest la vie. Sometimes the human condition is such that we all have some form of "GIGS", and it manifests itself in different ways.
kaylan
I heard this so many times from many white men that I know of. Especially the ones that are now dating Asians. They say it to you to gas your head up. Obviously if they are trying to get with an Asian, then they are going to say something to make you think you are on a pedestal. These same dudes would never turn down a hot white girl if they had a chance to date one. So lets not kid ourselves here. Ive had girls do it to me and say how much they love black guys. Personally I find it a turn off because I dont like to be fetishized. I like to be liked for who I am regardless of my race.
Author DuchessKaye
I've been out with caucasian men, latino, and asian. I think asian men have hot bodies:P True! Asian men have hot bodies! And... Caucasians have white sexy butts and that really turns me on :lmao: Hahaha!

kaylan
In any case I never took racial preferences too seriously since Ive been the "first black guy" for several chicks. And my ex was never attracted to brothers before she was with me, and after she was with me she found herself checking them out more. I just think threads like this only make certain guys get more down on themselves. But all these threads show us is that people think and feel based on dominant society. No biggie though. Couldn't it be that since she has already had several good experiences with white men that 1 bad experience wouldn't necessarily destroy her attraction? Really? If this is the case, then what about her other experiences with Asian men? I doubt they have all been horrible. As I said, I think her dating preference has little to do with whos race the good guys and bad guys have been in her life. I think its something deeper than that. I just dont think many people like admitting that. She could have great experiences with Asian guys from here on out, and would still chase white men because her preference has more to do with herself, not them. Again I say this, was it necesarry to put down her own men and trump up white men so highly as she did in her OP? StarGazer is right, this is something Asian people do far more than any other group of people. ESPECIALLY the women...theres even numerous youtube videos, articles, and blogs where Asian women put down their own men in favor of white men. You dont see other American minority females doing this in such great number. Hell, 50% of all American born Asian females marry a white guy. Thats MUCH larger than any other minority group and speaks a lot about how they view white men. Im just saying, the way Asians view white people is much different from how other races view whites in comparison to themselves. A lot of Asian men will attest to what I have said. Although I have never written off white men due to bad experiences, I have been less then favourable to Canadian men due to my bad experience. So maybe that equates a little. And it is well known I would prefer a relationship with an American man, why? well I already had a relationship with a Canadian and an Australian, American is the unchartered frontier. Who knows maybe after a relationship with an American, I might become all about British guys. You cannot compare race and nationality. People can be of any race and easily change nationality. Nationality can changed based on where you are raised....race can never be changed. So its a flawed comparison. Sorry. Edited April 26, 2012 by kaylan

You cannot compare race and nationality. People can be of any race and easily change nationality. Nationality can changed based on where you are raised....race can never be changed. So its a flawed comparison. Sorry. I think it has a lot to do with Hollywood. In the past 20 years look at all the leading male roles and the parts they play. Before that it was all white male. It doesn't have to be Tom Cruise that saves the world or rescues the princess, but it has to be a white guy. That is beat into every bodies head in every movie and TV show from birth. Last 20 years, blacks started taking leading male roles, Asian men are still just the side kick if even in it. I am half asian /half white. I don't look Asian at all and I am sorry to say that I am thankful for that. I lucked out on my mix, I got all the benefit from both. There is no problem pulling women.....attractive women of any race. I know my friends that are full on Asian have problems....not all of them, but most of them get shot down off the bat or never even had a shot. I have encountered these lack wit Asian girls that put down their own race. I don't care so much what they want to date, but for them to bad mouth their own race just shows them for the submissive little twats that they are. That being said, I usually go after Latinas, white girls or mixed race, the attractive ones. They don't have to be those races, but they do need to look good.
ThaWholigan
Mesmerized I am curious, what do you look like? For some reason I picture you as very beautiful. Interestingly enough, so do I The last girl I "tried" to date was latina mixed with middle-eastern. She was the most gorgeous girl I had seen in a very long time. Ethnicity and race has never been a big deal to me when it comes to dating. I just happen to find a particular look very attractive to me, like girl in the avi.

You cannot compare race and nationality. People can be of any race and easily change nationality. Nationality can changed based on where you are raised....race can never be changed. So its a flawed comparison. Sorry. I was under the opinion she had only had one experience with asian men and it was bad, thereby not having any positive experiences to cancel it out with. I wasn't saying they were exactly comparable examples, just that even though i haven't vetoed all white men from from dating pool, at different times i have vetoed some white men from my dating pool. And yes a canadian could move to australia and get citizenship, but when he opened his mouth to speak he would probably sound like my ex husband, say eh alot, and possibly have some childhood experiences or similar view points as my ex husband. All of which could take me back to that horrible space i was in before. So as much as i have grown now and know that one bad canadian doesn't mean the whole bunch are rotten, it is still probably best that i don't actively seek one.

To be specific, I have a mental image of you looking like Mila Kunis when she was young (hence, not so much in Black Swan, but when she was on That 70s Show.) Jane2011
It's not bad. I still don't know why you guys feel this way lol Here's my explanation. I caught on from a thread a few weeks ago (maybe a month ago) that you're Middle Eastern or Mediterranean. I think these women tend to be good-looking, anyway. Then I've noticed you say a lot that you like really hot guys. To me, it's usually hot girls who say they like hot guys. (This is not a bad thing).

I can be considered hot if I put effort on hair, makeup and cloth. But when I wake up in mornings I'm just cute I think lol

Woggle
I must admit that while I have no issue whatsoever with interracial dating when I meet a woman with a white guy fetish it turns me off. I ended up on a date with a black woman once and it was like talking to a KKK member with the way she talked about black men. It was just a complete turn off. My wife is Italian and besides the being gorgeous there is just something about Italian and Latin women that really turns me on. They have a sense of adventure and sensuality but at the same time if you treat them right they will be loyal as hell.

JohnnyCage
I like all women, but I tend to gravitate towards either black women or women of mixed origin, like black and white, black and latina, black and mediterranean etc. I love a girl with light brown skin and curly hair. PS: I also want mentally stable girls!! Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii I fixed ThaWholigan's post so it automatically disqualifies you TigressA!
