brashgal
Where do I start? Cut out your caffeine intake except for maybe an early morning cup or two, never in the afternoon! Get regular exercise, not too close to bedtime. Don't watch the news or something too exciting before you go to bed. Take a warm bath a couple hours before bedtime. Women - I just read today that a good orgasm can pump up norepinephrine levels and keep you from falling asleep up to an hour afterward - have sex earlier than right before bed. If you can't sleep, don't lie in bed longer than 30 minutes. Get up and have a snack, try reading something boring, watch TV (although nothing too stimulating). There are all kinds of mind exercises you can do, try to relax each individual part of your body starting at your head and working down to your feet. I have a friend who tries to name different things by each letter of the alphabet (animals, cities, whatever). I'm sure if you do a search you'll find plenty of ways to fall asleep on the web. einahpets
tried it all, none of it works for me. i can take 3 sleeping pills with 1/2 a bottle of wine and it will still have no effect on me (don't worry i no longer even bother w/those types of things) i know it is not good for you, and it just plain doesn't work for me. i do have anxiety (don't tell me to write my thoughts down before i sleep, tried that too), which seems to be the culprit. even the fact that i am worried i won't sleep will keep me up at night. do you have a similar experience dark cloud? other than to go on anti-anxiety meds (i don't like having constant chemicals in my system) is there any herbal or similar remindies you guys know of? or maybe low chemical anti-anxiety pills. i heard things like paxil are horrible to go off of. the withdrawl is so bad that many people go back on it because of the effects....... moimeme
Here's the thing: if you convince yourself that nothing will work, nothing will work. Now, one thing that works for me is to change beds. Rather than sleep in my bed, I'll spend a few nights on the couch. But I know this works and so my brain accepts this will work - and it works! So if you have got yourself thoroughly convinced that you cannot sleep no matter what, it might be time to visit a sleep clinic or a hypnotist.
snickerdoodles86
First off I must say I think sleeping pills + alcohol = bad things but what ever. I would possibly think about visiting a shrink, maybe there are some psychological problems that you need to sort out like too much stress or something else that is really bothering you. I'm not too big of a fan of sleeping pills per say I mean I don't know for a fact, but they just seem to be a sort of a possible easy fix that could cause you to become dependant on them (that's probably why the prescription was for two weeks only) but every case is different and there are justified reasons for them, I'm sure. And I don't get that, what is the person supposed to do after two weeks if the problem lies within their sub conscience state? I would really just try to talk to somebody(counseling) or really analyze your daily life style, what possibly are you doing that could cause you to have sleepless nights? Are you taking naps during the day, are you drinking a lot of caffeine? If none of this is the case I would really look down deep and see if something is consistently on your mind or causing you unhealthy stress. Don't forget to analyze where you sleep also, is it too noisy, too bright is your room really hot or is your spouse keeping you awake. Look at it through every aspect that you can think of, there has to be SOME reason for your sleep deprivation.
lnichols
Go see your doctor. You might have a medical condition that would cause this or have this as a symptom. Do you feel sleepy all the time? Could be hypothyroidism. (Your thyroid gland might not be working right). They can do a blood test for that. It could be all kinds of stuff. Rule out anything medical. tiki
Only use your bed for sex and sleeping. No hanging out in bed reading or watching TV or having convos with the spouse. You will begin to associate your bed with sleeping. I believe the average person falls asleep within seven minutes of lying down. I'm out in less than one minute! zzzzz. The obvious - no caffeinated beverages! Decrease stimuli before zzzzz time. Adjust temperature levels if it makes you sleep better. Drink a glass of warm milk. Count sheep? Remain STILL and CALM!!! Don't be restless. I can't count the times that if I could just remain still and calm, I could fall asleep. Good luck!
