Hiding my emotions- hope somebody will answer me..

Sometimes when I am in a situation where someone hurts me and I cant show my pain. Example seeing your ex in person, like bumping into them and they are with someone, I would feel this physical pain in my heart, my throat hurts and feels swollen and my eyes start getting watery.

How do I stop these things? I want to stand, smile and wave like as if nothing. Is there some form of discipline or practice you can do?

Perhaps it has something to do with lack of exercise or stress?

Also like if a superior humiliated me at work , I would start feeling like I am going to cry burst out in tears any second..how do I stop myself from doing this, especially if I cant leave the area for a minute or so?

Thanks.. :) it would really help me in life if I learn how to deal with this.

I get the exact same feeling - like my throats swelled up ten times its normal size! Also I get this huge churning feeling in my tummy and often if I've just eaten I'm sick.

However, what I do is just close my eyes for 10 long seconds, breathe evenly and deeply and I imagine lying beside the sea, I hear the waves lapping against the shore and I remember how I have been hurt before, and how I have laughed carelessly since. If there is ever an incident that upsets you, bottle your emotion up until you can be alone and cry, scream, whatever you do. But for that time being if you feel like ''all eyes are on you'' smile and shrug it off, or at least make it look like that. I'm not one for walking away, so I personally wouldn't suggest that, just smile and shrug it off :) and if you're at work, who knows once you get in your car you may have forgotten all about that incident, and if not you can have a good little cry alone! If you are good friends with coworkers try having a laugh at the situation with them (I'm sorry I don't know what profession you're in, but obviously if you work in health care or social care this won't apply if you're upset about someone you are looking after! But if it's about a co-worker who isn't nice or a boss, why not!)

Perhaps, take up meditation to ease your mind and afford yourself better self control in such situations. Sometimes, unfortunately, you only learn through practice. Positive affirmations will also go a long way - you have to be confident and believe that any external circumstances will not shake your core and cannot get to you mentally on such a level that these thoughts manifest themselves on a physical level.

Best of luck!
