Lobouspo
What are some examples in your life where you have witnessed the power of prayer? I am throwing this out to anyone who believes in " a higher power", not any specific religious persuasion. I have been in some seemingly hopeless situations, where prayer has seemed to work wonders
january2011
I can't remember any specific examples but I think that there were a number of occasions where I just 'sent' a message out to the universe and the universe responded. Usually not immediately though. It could be argued, however, that after sending out the message, by performing a series of actions I somehow engineered the outcome that I wanted and that the sent message was just some kind of affirmation to boost my morale and motivation to get it all done. KathyM
I know people personally who were suffering from a physical illness or limitation, who were prayed for and were totally healed on the spot. No other possible explanation for their healing, other than the power of prayer. I know people personally who were suffering from a mental illness, and were prayed for, and were healed instantaniously. I know people who were in life threatening situations, who prayed for help and were immediately rescued in a way that defies any logical explanation, and could have only come from divine intervention. I know people who were having enormous financial struggles, who prayed and were immediately given a sign, a divine intervention, on how to overcome them or were given a means to overcome those struggles. I could list many other times prayer has been answered in my life and in the lives of people I know, which I am convinced was God's answer to prayer, but the situations I mentioned could not have been explained by any other means than the answer to prayer. There is no other way to explain what happened, except through divine intervention. Note to Eve: You should tell us what you've experienced. It could be a good testament to the power of God and His response to prayer.
BetheButterfly
What are some examples in your life where you have witnessed the power of prayer? I am throwing this out to anyone who believes in " a higher power", not any specific religious persuasion. I have been in some seemingly hopeless situations, where prayer has seemed to work wonders Me too! I have seen the power of God in many areas of my life. When I was around 10 years old, I was swimming in a pool with 2 of my sisters and 3 friends. I was enjoying practicing my new skills of swimming under the water, holding my breath, and as I drifted slowly near the surface, a friend got on top of me! I panicked because I wanted to come up for air but her weight held me down. I tried to swim lower and get her off me, she just thought though that I was merely playing around and held on tighter with her legs.. she didn't realize I had run out of air. I prayed and just rested in the water....my darling youngest sister looked around for me, asking the others where I was. My friend said: "Under me!" and my sis told her to get off and let me breathe. Thank God!!! My youngest sister didn't normally look out for me... she was 4 years old. I am the eldest. I have always looked out for her, but I believe that God put it in her heart to check on me in a critical moment. Another time is praying for family members and friends. I have felt the need to pray for them during the day, and many times, there was a reason, where they had experienced something difficult and God protected them. For example, one day I felt I needed to pray for my Mom. When she got back, she told about how she almost got into a car accident, but thankfully didn't. My Mom is an excellent driver. One time that really spoke to me and changed my life about the power of prayer is after years of living how I wanted, and making decisions contrary to God's guidelines. I was very frustrated and annoyed at life, and I was depressed. I told God, "why don't you kill me?" He didn't lol. So I told him, Fine, I'm just going to leave you and be "bad" cause I'm so good at it." As soon as I prayed that, a very strong and jealous and loving presence came into the room where I was. A verse from the Old Testament came to my mind, and a wonderful, mysterious mixture of fear and adoration and the knowledge that God loved me and had great plans for me entered me. It was amazing!!! I will never ever forget that day, because I had never experienced anything like that before!!! That changed me from legalism to understanding that God loves me no matter my past, and that God is the One who helps me live for Him, and that He is jealous for me. He loves and wants me. He does not want to lose me, and He is awesome!!! I felt so relieved and unburdened after His touch, and I was no longer depressed. Rather, I was in awe of God and His beautiful Creation and fell in love with God and with life!!! Prayer is amazing, because it is communicating to God. Although many people who do not have a relationship with God like to criticize and mock people who do, that does not negate the power of God when people pray to Him. Now, sometimes people think that God doesn't answer prayer if something amazing doesn't happen. There have been times where I have prayed for something, and the answer is no. I don't hear no... it's just, what I asked for doesn't happen. However, God is able to reject a request, for His reasons. God is not a genie out to fulfill people's wishes!!! When God doesn't answer a petition, He has a reason for it, and many times it's hard for people, who are limited beings, limited to space and time, to understand. God is not limited though... God is everywhere and knows past, present, and future. God is greater than the galaxies and sees the whole picture, while we humans are just tiny little creatures on earth. Prayer includes praising God for Who He is and what He does, thanking Him, expressing one's heart to Him, and asking requests for other people as well as for oneself. Prayer is not about just asking for things, that's just 1 of the aspects of prayer. For me, praying and singing praise songs to God (which I consider to be part of my prayer) helps me enjoy life, keep calm, and love and appreciate God's beautiful creation!!! When I'm stressed, praying praise songs to God releases negativity, and helps me enjoy the day God has made!
