Prison penpals?

I was really skeptical at first then I tried this prison penpal site. only thing is that I didn't pay these people for the addresses I just got them on my own for free. That's the beauty of public info. *S* I wanted to know if there is anyone out there that has tried this sort of thing or am I the only guy in America that has done it? I was smart about it. I'm not going to bring someone into my life that's an Axe-murderer, kidnapper, child molester, nothing like that. I'd have a hard time feeling safe around a woman like that to be honest with you. Maybe Burglary or something like that I can live with. All I ask is that she not bring her work home with her. I thought what the hell I'll try it and see if anything happens. There are 4 I'm in touch with now. One in MO, One in FL and 2 in TX. Even if I only end up being good friends with them I'd still be happy with that. I hope you found this entertaining and I look forward to seeing your responses. Let me know what you all think.

Paulie's opinion, for which I'm sure I'll get criticized?

While I'm sure there are good women in prison,

Just look elsewhere, please.

I tell it like I see it, sorry.

New Jack,

I agree wholeheartedly that there are women in prison who are worth loving but I don't believe there are solid relationships to be built while they are in prison.

Right now all their hope and expectations for their new life will be based on you and the feelings you give them. And while those feelings will be a beautiful spot amidst desperate days, it will only form a dependent relationship. The most we can hope of our dependents is that they will become strong; we are successful only if that strength helps them become independent of us.

I think you must have a special heart to reach out this way. Beware to distinguish wishful thinking from false hope. I admire your compassionate, forgiving heart... please guard it with these ladies as you would your mother's favorite golden necklace.

I'm with Paulie and Teressa 100 percent. There are just way too many people whose lives are uncomplicated and who have no arrest record to find someone in prison.

Do you have any idea what you have to do to get sent to the slammer??? You have to either commit a VERY serious crime once or you have to commit a number of less serious crimes a lot of times. It is REALLY HARD to get into prisons nowadays. They are very crowded. Prosecutors, public defenders, attorneys and judges work very hard to make prison a last resort. So these people you are corresponding with are certainly not the cream of the crop of offenders.

Relationships can be difficult enough. But when you leave the starting gate with hands and feet tied, you are really asking for problems.

There are many Internet dating services that work very well. Try www.match.com You can get a ten day free trial and in that time you can find dozens of nice ladies in your area. There are also dating services on all the major search engines like: netscape.com , lycos.com , altavista.com , etc.

On the other hand, if you have a very long arrest record, are a mass murderer, are on the FBI's Most Wanted List, or are a terrorist in waiting, you may just find your match at a prison. Or, better yet, watch America's Most Wanted on FOX TV Network. I have seen some real honies there.
