What's your idea of spiritual practice?

Feelin Frisky

FWIW this is how I see things: spirituality is really thinking and acting in deliberate spite of animal nature. Animal nature is to be territorial, judgemental, suspicious, dismissive, competitive, excluding and above all, hierarchical. Belief in "god" IMO is hierarchical where god is just a projection of ultimate power in our own image. Therefore spirituality is suspension of territorialism in favor of risk that someone else may combine with you to make a new whole greater than the sum of its parts. Spirituality is instead of prostrating oneself in prayer for deliverance by some powerful intercessor, it is getting off one's knees and taking the risks that may come with doing the good work that brings about a good reality. It is wise of course to be cautious but the line where wisdom becomes spirituality is in the courage to lead by example. One can marvel at the beauty of life and nature and feel connected and call it spirituality but that demands a non-judgmental view in which conclusions aren't made about the depth, scope and origins of things. This I believe to be the type of spirituality that the story of Jesus is about if you look only to the actions and not the words. When people objectify Christ instead of emulating the man, they act more along the lines of animal behavior in taking on hierarchy than the spiritual behavior of something more than territorial beast. Crucify me if you will for my candor. Clearly a spiritual person would not.

These two quotes by Rumi sum it up for me. I see their practice as intertwined in everything in everyday life.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,

there is a field. I'll meet you there.

There is a life-force within your soul, seek that life.

There is a gem in the mountain of your body, seek that

mine.

O traveler, if you are in search of That

Don't look outside, look inside yourself and seek That.

Mine would definitely be percussion - esp. after I found this article. Drum circles and drumming is where I find my spiritual center. Moreso than Buddhism.

Drumming as a Spiritual Practice | elephant journal

I have two spiritual practices.....one of them is I believe there is a higher power that has a grand design that one day we will come to know and understand.... I open my heart in meditation and send all my hopes and dreams fears and tears up there and trust that I am doing the best that i can do for others and for myself i ask for clear mindedness, the drive and strength to do that

The other spiritual practice I have is.....I use the bass in music....i go clubbing regularly.... to switch off for a while....enjoy feeling muscles work get carried away in the beat I dont worry about anything..I dont see anyone.i dont think anything...concentrate on movement and feel all of my body work.i just let the music fill my head close my eyes and dance.....so maybe that is similar to drumming.....

i do dance to safri duo the bongo song where i shimmy up a sweat.that is at home though....not played in the clubs much anymore..i always feel better after that....clear headed and more alive and happy...

same with the bass in a club it releases many tensions...I always choose really frenetic songs to dance too mainly so i can just dance and not worry about the intoxicated....so is that like drumming?

Can astrology be considered as spirituality? It gives me great comfort to seek answers from the stars to validate my life. Hehe...

I have a spiritual practice I just sort of put together with no idea if it relates to any religions. I have two different coloured candles that I burn, each colour symbolizing something that's important to me. I place different objects on the table; a plant, a small glass jar of water, and incense. Light the incense and speak my thoughts out loud until it has finished burning.

Sometimes I'll use healing crystals. Each one represents something different. Tree agate, carnelian, and green calcite are a few examples. I'll set them on the table or hold them in my hands, whatever feels right.

I do yoga once a week which I consider to be spiritual. It helps me to get out of my head and get back inside my body.

It can be spiritual also to go to a park and sit under a tree to contemplate the clouds.
