Searching for something that is not there....

I am 21 years old. I feel as if I am searching for something in life that is not there. Something that will make me happy.(Not someone) Something that will make me feel alive. Something that I was made for. I guess this all goes to one's destiny. But in the journey of life, do you ever find the path?

I will never know until I find it.

I will keep on searching.

Until then, I am searching for something that is not there.

Dear Hurtingandconfused,

I too have asked these questions, I'm 31 (10yrs older) and this is what i've learned so far....hope it helps a little :)

"I feel as if I am searching for something in life that is not there". :o

---The first thing that I would suggest is to make a list of all of your necessities in life. What do you need/as opposed to what do you want. Once you see that you have most, if not all, of what you NEED...you'll see that there is still a desire for more. (This happens with just about everyone, including me)

"Something that will make me happy.(Not someone) Something that will make me feel alive" :(

----The fact that you are seeking truth and answers is proof of how very much "alive" you are. Dont you notice how we always have those feelings, wishing we had "something", however sometimes they get overshadowed by other things, eg. enjoying life...?

In my opinion, that is what life is....a mystery... a continuous journey towards seeking truth, meaning, purpose...

"Something that I was made for. I guess this all goes to one's destiny. But in the journey of life, do you ever find the path? ":bunny:

---Ask yourself this question...what would you do if you found the meaning of life? what if that sense of "void" was filled? Wouldn't that mean that you would then stop seeking? Surely you wouldn't look for something once you've already found it...but then what? What happens to our lives after that? No more questions to ask, no more adventures to seek, no more self-improvement, etc...we have found the "answer"....NOT...I believe that the "void" that we feel is the car driving us on the path...the path is our life journey. And in life, we travel many different roads, some which lead to beautiful destinations, and some which lead to nowhere. That's where experience and knowledge come from. We choose which roads to stay on, which roads to stay off, however we also choose to keep driving. Those who don't, don't go anywhere. Even in the most devastating situations, when you feel hopeless, it is that very void that keeps us going. I once heard a quote "He who has a why to live, can bear with almost any how". (purpose) That can be as simple as going home to feed your dog. Ones purpose is determined by what they value, love, want, stand for. How sad it would be if we were not driven by that car called "void".

Nothing in life is guaranteed is a guarantee in itself. There will always be questions, some will be answered, others wont, but don't ever stop asking because you will then stop growing.

"I will never know until I find it.

I will keep on searching.

Until then, I am searching for something that is not there." :bunny:

---Find your meaning in who you are, the things that you enjoy, your friends, your loved ones, your values, set and accomplish your goals so that you can live up to your fullest potential. We all contribute to this life/world, in one way or another. Live your life to the very fullest, and never ever stop asking questions. There are many different perspectives on every topic, so don't expect one simple answer. You have many years ahead of you, and i can assure you one day you will reach a point where you will look back at your life and see how the questions that you have now, have manifested themselves through who you have become.

Enjoy your journey, and may happiness find you :)
