Patty
Today,I went into work, like I normally do and wasnt thinking anything of my hair being a problem for work.I have dyed it before and they never said anything. This time they told me orange isnt acceptable and to get it removed. So now I have to get it removed today at the salon.I was so upset cause everyone else goes in there with nose rings and other piercings and they have to get on my case for my hair.Thats not fair. They never even say anything to them about the piercings and I would think the piercings would be more of a problem, then the type of hair dye that someone uses.I just dont understand why they can get away with it.The boss was looking at me like as if I was some kind of criminal or something. This was disrespectful. CurlyIam
Try not to take it personally. You know what they say about tastes ! Sorry to hear about that, go to a saloon and ask them to use something gentle for your hair, since it's been recently dyed... Buy a mask for revitalizing your hair too, the first time you have the money.
Fayebelle
Patty sweetie- I really wish you'd find a new job. Your manager is such a BITCH! Did you ever address your other probs w/her?
miz_barby
I read your other post about your Mom and your hair, now your work and your hair! Did you dye it orange on purpose or was it a case of trying to go blonde but turned an orangish instead?? I had that happen to me once because of hard water and I used a malibu treatment (bought at sally's beauty supply) and an ION treatment which gets rid of the rust and it took out the orange tint and made is blondish again. If you did it on purpose, just dye it another color though you shouldn't have to but if it is gonna cause so much drama then it's not worth it unless of course you're craving attention and are trying to get it this way. Why let people make you cry over your hair choice? Do you have LSE? (low self esteem) Good luck!
HokeyReligions
What kind of dye and what color did you use? It shouldn't be a problem at your job if it falls within the range of natural colors--and there are a LOT of natural colors. When I was young my hair turned bright carrot orange in the summer, while one friend had hair so black it looked blue - even when she wasn't in bright light. You work in the food industry right? Are you required to wear a hair-net or something that would cover your hair? If there are people with nose-rings, etc. as a statement of their personal tastes and individuality & they wear them at work, then you should have the same rights to display your individuality with your hair color. Can you talk to your boss about this? Tell him/her that you feel singled out and ask for a more thorough explanation of why your hair is not OK and their face jewelry is? Olivia_19742004
You have two choices. Either quit your job and find another one or realize that you are expected to conduct yourself in a specific manner that is conducive to the image of the company you work for.
Author Patty
Thanks everyone for the help.I would never do anything to get attention,I just like to try different things with my hair.I forgot to add in my post earlier that it was a flourescent color. Well it took 2 in a half hours at the salon to get it all out.Hopefully things will clear up. Im upset about what they said.I will show them what a fool they are for saying I cant wear my hair like this.I'll say to this worker,"dont get any of your face piercings in my lunch".That will get them thinking. lydiamarie
so what color is it now? is it one that you can live with? (and what's your mom saying about this?)
moimeme
Im upset about what they said.I will show them what a fool they are for saying I cant wear my hair like this. This is a bad idea, Patty. Unfortunately, workplaces are allowed to dictate what people can and cannot wear and if they can put fluorescent colours in their hair. It is their right to do this. I'll say to this worker,"dont get any of your face piercings in my lunch".That will get them thinking. Actually, Patty, that would just be rude. It never pays to repay rudenss or unpleasantness with more rudeness. Just be gracious about this. People who are higher up may be ok stating their ideas and wishes, but when you're at the bottom of the ranks, you don't get that right. It stinks and it's a throwback, IMHO, but it's the sad fact of life.
Mr Spock
Most workplaces, especially places that serve food have very clear guidlines on what is considered acceptable. It may seem bogus to complain about your hair colour but take the high road and remain mute on the topic and find a job where y ou feel you are able to express yourself creatively. ladyangel
Patty, it's my understanding that you work at McDonald's. I can certainly understand that they have rules against such things as flourescent hair color, since you are representing their company. They probably have their rules written out somewhere. Maybe you should read them before you get bent out of shape and think they're being unfair to you. Bosses usually know what their talking about.
Baubles
Sorry Patty - I agree w/ previous posts- fluorescent hair is not appropriate for public work unless say you're a rock star You know what, now you know. As to the piercings, yeh there probably should be something about that too. BUT it's not for you to address. Curious too what kind of color your hair is now. Have you thought of playing w/ the color enhancing shampoos? Artec makes a line that REALLY deposits color but washes out in a couple of days- can make brown hair auburnish etc. be careful if your hair is blonde- don't do it - I used a brown one time cause i thought my blonde was too light- ...yuck... Author Patty
I have got the flourescent out by a professional.Seriously if I knew they were against flourescent,I would have not tried it.They dont have the rules posted of what was right to wear on the wall,so it wasnt my fault. My hair is black now.Everyone likes it ever since I had it done from a professional, including the Spanish guy,he just loved it,I think cause it is like his hair.I think he likes it cause I look more natural. As far as piercings go,I dont think I'll get any face piercings.I know they would tell me to not wear them if it were me. Patty
