Women in the Olympics and body types

Recommended Posts

Well, I am indeed basing my opinion on what the guys themselves linked me when I asked, way back when. My opinion of what athletic-looking would be like, would be the two women on the left in 123123's link, as I said.

The 2nd from the left looks good, but she's already on roids [neck].

There is a point where they just start taking roids and go all manly, at that point they stop being attractive.

I actually like arm and leg muscle, defined, seen under the skin [i have a thing for girl's backs and the way the muscles look under the skin], but if it gets to steroids and serious competitions with the 'must win' mentality, i don't like it.

There was a thread here several months ago, where some men were talking about liking athletic-looking women. I asked for pictures of what they thought was athletic-looking, and I think I got Beyonce and some other celebrities, none of whom have noticeable muscles.

Beyonce works out daily. What part of that is not athletic? If you don't think she looks athletic, check out what women who don't exercise look like at 30.

You make a fair point about the steroids. It's a pity that many athletes, both men and women, resort to them to get the muscles fast.

If you think Beyonce is THE definition of athletic, I think you made my point for me fairly nicely. :) Again, nothing wrong with liking how Beyonce looks. I just disagree with the semantics. To me, 'athletic-looking' is connotated with visible muscle.

Those muscles make her look hot to me.

I remembered one that i liked, Zuzana from Bodyrock.

I was definitely not put off by her leg and arm muscles, and she can probably bench more than me. :p

At nearly, 6 foot 5, she's likely a lot taller than you :D. I'm a tall guy and she towered over me

(85 lbs at 5'1" is slightly worrisome unless she's in her teens, in fact, IMO).

I was curious about her age. Those images are from a book called The Athlete, published in 2002. Olga Karmansky was 15 in 2002, possibly younger when the photo was taken. Probably not a great example of "sexy"

IMO, at least, 'looking athletic' is defined as the two women on the left (not the one in the middle, either). Of course, this definition could be debatable, but the two women on the left are clearly, indisputably athletic-looking and the two women on the right are clearly, indisputably very slim (85 lbs at 5'1" is slightly worrisome unless she's in her teens, in fact, IMO).

She looks to be probably 16 or so to me, so yeah.

However several most of the GF I've had in the recent past were about those "specifications", but looked different. She's got a lot of muscle mass which is compact, a woman this height and weight with more percent of her mass as fat will look a little bigger overall, smaller in the legs, and will often have boobs.

I definitely agree that there are some men who like muscles, but many of the men here, at least, seem to falsely equate 'athletic' with 'slim', IMO.

Right, I've heard this term thrown around, "I like athletic women". But what they seem to describe as "athletic", seems very off. I just don't think it's right to use terms and make it sound like you like this healthy type of body type when what you really like is something completely different.

Women in the Olympics, more so the Summer games than Winter, are mostly very young--not even legal. Their exercise levels leave them with no extra flesh at all. So most females (save weight lifters, shot-putters, hammer chuckers) have bodies you can bounce a quarter off of and it comes back fitty cent. But buxom they are not. Some are lovely of face however--I find swimmer Natalie Coughlin for instance to be very appealing.

I am not talking about underaged girls and I would prefer that we didn't over sexualize the young girls in the Olympics. I think that's really jacked up. I am talking about legal aged women who often have very fit bodies with very little fact and their breasts tend not to be big. But they have very fit athletic bodies.

Depends on the sport, some sports cause the muscles of the waist to be developed to the point where women look thick in the waist, which is not attractive, other sports do not.

As far as "attractive body type(s)" go, some women I find attractive that are Google-able were Playboy's:

Andrea Del Puerto

Jenna Michelle

Amy Marie

Are these women that were in the Olympics or just women you think are hot from Playboy?

They are celebrities with what I consider "realistic" and athletic type bodies, I've dated quite a few women who were built like they are.

I could only find Andrea Del Puerto and I don't see how she is considered "athletic". She is certainly in shape but I don't neccesarily see the athletism in her form that I see in women who are actually in the Olympics. Which is what my thread is about. This is actually kind of what I was talking about. Describing women's bodies certain ways that seem a little misrespresented in my mind's eye.

To me, this is an atheltic body type:

Female Vollyball player

or

Female Vollyball player 2

or

Female runner

or

female swimmer

The women you posted appear to be pretty stereotypical to the ideal of Playboy but not really true atheticism. But that's just my opinion. When you see the women you like and hte women I posted, you can see the difference I think.

When I say I like an "athletic build" I don't mean to say I want a world class athlete, in fact "in shape" or "physically fit" are precisely what I'm saying. That's the point I was making.

Olympians and other world class athletes are their own sort of extreme body type for the most part.

I guess to me though, "athletic build" is misleading to what you really like. You really like women that fit that stereotypicaly Playboy image and I would never say the standard woman in Playboy is "athetlic" so much as fits into that partially naturally made/partially faked body. Alot of women don't have big huge breasts when they are really athletic. That isn't common.

None of the names I listed have (well, had at the time) huge fake boobs. They are all slim, fit, naturally proportioned women.

I think that's not "the point" but it's pretty closely related. Most guys I know who say "I like an athletic build" don't want a world class marathoner. A runner, or something, sure. They are looking for someone fit and are not hung up on huge boobs and so on.

I agree at that level depending upon the sport the athletes have bodies sculpted not for attracting the sexual interest of others, as even full out body builders do to some extent, but to compete in a very specific event.

Sports which are not one set of repetitive movement tend to produce more balanced bodies and tend to be seen as more sexually attractive. Get over the young age and shortness of a gymnastics competitor, who does multiple event related movements and they tend to be seen as more attractive then the over development, in relationship to the rest of the body of a swimmers shoulders or a sprinters legs

Right, but guys seldom say "I want an athlete", more likely they (we) say "I like an athletic build", which is s subtle language change but a huge change in meaning. Women who pursue sport as a hobby will not typically be as transformed by their sport as a world class competitor would be, but will often be somewhat slim, lean and muscled as well as often quite healthy.

The hottest chick I ever dated was an enthusiastic ballet dancer. Mmmm.

I see a difference between athletic and thin -- a big one, as a thin girl who works out a bit, but is decidedly not athletic. Muscle is the key difference, and you can SEE the difference between someone who is merely thin and someone who is muscular. Many actresses also work out daily to an athletic degree (someone who works out HARD for hours a day is athletic to me, whether they are an athlete or not), so there may be actresses who also look like that, but many actresses are softer and waif-like as well. I do think when men say they like an athletic look (and not all say they do), they are being sincere, but they aren't necessarily saying "Olympic athlete." I think that's simply making a very small definition of "athletic" --- the average woman who is athletic does not look like that.

I do think men who like athletic actually like a fair proportion of muscle on a woman and that's the big difference from just liking "thin" -- maybe many of the Olympians have gone too far (and some are just too young or whatnot) for their tastes, but that's true with women too. I know plenty of women like muscular men but would balk at a bodybuilder. There are extremes that are generally aesthetically unattractive. The same as many men like thin women, but they don't necessarily want to date women who look starving and prepubescent.

I imagine if you're not thin, it's easy to lump in "thin (normal-level) athletic women" and other thin women, but they really don't look the same per se. You can be thin by calorie control or genes with only moderate or even no exercise, really.

ETA: Many professional athletes are often seen as attractive. Tennis is big with that these days, but gymnasts and soccer players have always had their days. Beach volleyball teams are often attractive. It really depends on the sport on whether it develops an 'attractive' body that is also athletic. I would say often it's also the pictures themselves that make the women seem unattractive -- generally speaking, grunting and screaming and scrapping mid-contest makes everyone look unattractive. Men, included, really.

ETA2: I'm also going to have to go with achieving the so-called "porn look" DY is talking about (though having seen an array of links to porn stars recently I'm not sure what that means, but let's assume it's more actress-pretty + buxom since there's overweight porn and so forth apparently) being FAR easier and more potentially natural than achieving the look of an Olympian. Some girls WILL look buxom and thin naturally, just as some women will be model tall and thin naturally, and plenty of women can look relatively like actresses naturally or with a bit of makeup and tricks, but no one naturally looks like most kinds of Olympians. Those muscles are all developed through hard work. Hours on end, really.

How about we don't talke about the "attractiveness" at all of underaged girls! Come on.

I've been both weak-thin and athletic-thin (although nowhere near Olympian condition), and I experience it as a big difference. I'm sure my partner can tell the difference, even if I am wearing the same clothing size.

A good example of this is Gwyneth Paltrow. In her days with Brad Pitt, she was waif thin, and currently she is athletic thin. Same basic size, but it looks very different to me--stronger, more toned, sculpted.
