Titanwolf Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Has anyone seen it? I just saw it and I have to ask, is there any truth (pardon the pun) to it and the way dating is supposed to be "handled"?. It seems like a pretty **** way to treat people IMHO and very manipulative, on both sides.

I like Butler generally but I'd never seen Katherine Heigl before. She reminded me of Sandra Dee or Doris Day in one of those typical romantic comedies of the Fifties. A wonderful relationship film is Shop Girl, starring Steve Martin, Claire Danes and Jason Schwartzmann. Quirky, offbeat comedy-romance-drama. Beautifully done, based on Martin's own book.
january2011 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Saw it many years ago, but can't remember what it said about dating, other than the ball-breaking female got her man - misogynistic though he was in the film. And their shared viewpoints on restaurants and tap water seemed to lead to some kind of magical, "it was meant to be" look on the face of the character played by Heigl. I usually find some kind of useful message in most films, but the useful message in this film escaped me.

I don't want to spoil it for the other guy in this thread, but I will say that although it is just a film, there was some truth, e.g treating your potential love-interest as "Just another option" and making them feel insignificant in your life, so they try and make themselves significant. It's probably one of those things that looks worse on paper, but a lot of parts had me saying "Woooow, isthisreallife?"

True, what looks worse on paper and written on LS is in fact just more likely common sense in real life when it comes to dating. Nobody likes to feel as they're playing games, and while maybe its not the best analogy, if not a game what else could it be called so accurately.
