tricky situation...like my instructor

i'm a student, finishing up clinicals in a health field and my current instructor for this internship is about my age, but he graduated a few years before me. I really enjoy hanging out with him--we banter, and joke, and quote movies/tv/songs all the time. we're pretty much always having fun, aside from the work aspect of it. the other day, we got on the subject of taking girls to sporting events, etc, which, I'm a tomboy, and I love and follow sports religiously. so we ended up getting deeper into the conversation about our dating lives...he told me that his most recent date went all crazy and stalker, and I told him there was a guy that I was talking to, and he was coming on a bit strong. he also then told me that there was this girl one of his friends introduced him to, who he was messaging on fb, and I guess he was trying to get her number.

 

anyway, last Friday, he was telling me about this video online, and he said "i'll have to send it to you-give me your e-mail, actually, I'll just get your phone number...it's good to have in case you're late and need to call"--which is irrelevant since he doesn't come in until a few hours after I do anyway. so I called his phone and heard nothing from him all weekend.

 

today, he came in and we were talking and he said "did you end up texting me? I never got anything." and I told him I didn't realize he was waiting for me to text, I had just called him. so anyway, I texted him after and we chatted for a minute after I left today.

 

before I left, I ended up overhearing a conversation between him and another woman who works with us, and I couldn't hear anything he was saying, but I could hear everything the woman was saying, and could tell they were talking about him asking this other girl out on a date.

 

i do kind of like him, but it's an interesting situation because 1. he's my instructor and I don't think it's technically allowed, and 2. there's this other girl. I'm not necessarily looking to settle down right now anyway, and I am dating around, but I'm curious as to whether or not he just sees us as good friends or if there may be something else there.
