What happens once we die?

This is a question for those who follow a particular faith or are part of an organised religion. What do you think happens to those who aren't part of your faith when they die? For example, what do Christians think will happen to atheists or Muslims when they die? Will they be brought before Saint Peter for judgement? Will they be cast into the fiery pits of hell for not being Christian? Or will God accept them, for after all are we not all sinners?

 

Conversely, will a Jew or Muslim or what have you cross the river Styx to meet Hades before the underworld. Will they be judged on their deeds in life and sent to live in the Elysian Fields, the Ashpodel Meadows, or the dreaded Tartarus? (This is assuming you are a pagan, but you get my gist).

 

I'll start. As an atheist I believe dying will feel a bit like going to sleep, and then... nothing. Your conscience simply ceases to exist. I predict that's what happens to everyone else in the world.

 

And please, let's keep this civilised!

I'm a Christian Catholic. And though I'm not that religious, I grew up believing that once we die, our spirits leave our physical bodies and pass into the spirit world. If you have lived your life according to the God's will, you will go to heaven and there you continue to live, to progress and to learn, you'll have an eternal life with all your loved ones who have passed on. No more pain, more tears, no more starving. But if you didn't, your spirit will be thrown in hell and will experience an eternal death, endless pain and sorrows.

I believe in a loving god, and that he knows we are imperfect, we make mistakes,some of us get lost in the myriad of religions,i believe in judgement day where we will be judged on what we do with our lives not what religion we follow.....if you are a kind and just person and repent for past mistakes....you can go to heaven......deb
