What is the point of not having any text in your profile?

I am on a dating site that caters to people like me an those who are interested in us. Mostly seeing what my options are. Many of these people have no text in their profiles.

It's free so it's not a scam, WTH?

What is the point of not having any text in your profile?

options:

1) the person is just looking around to see who else is on the site (at bit like what you're doing) and so didn't want to say anything about themselves

2) the person is seeing someone now and has removed some of the content from their profile to deter suitors from getting in touch. (a lesser form of removing the profile entirely)

3) a new account... they haven't go round to it yet

4) the content got deleted for inappropriate content by a moderator (this definitely happens on some sites)

5) something else

I found some pretty good psychology about dating. Basically the concept is that some people are innately attracted to other types based on people's instincts, but it is not obvious who is what type. If you care to take a look, it's <www.projectevolove.com/education/1/general-concepts>

Does it seem like to anyone that women just want to talk online and never want to meet up? When you ask to meet in person, women will disappear or say something along the lines of, "omg you creeper!!!11one!!"

Women on POF make me laugh. They hate it if you only say Hi! or Hey!, and yet they do the same thing to me every time they message me .

Even when my profile says "please try harder than "hi how are you?"" they still do it.

I've had a lot of these in the last week. Occasionally I get a good one, but it's usually from women I'm not attracted to. I guess they work harder as a result.....

Today's one half hour ago was good, my headline is "you're all banned from using the word banter" - she mailed me "I bet your banter game is weak though, do sumfing" :lmao:

Girls are funny

Argh! Yes, that's a good word to ban.

I've thought about switching it to "banned from using the word YOLO", but YOLO isn't a word so.....

Almost on the topic of banter:

I got complimented on my small-talk recently on a date with someone from a dating site. At first I thought she was being sarcastic but I think she was serious (based on some things she went on to say afterwards) but at the time I was sitting there thinking "well, we basically have nothing in common and this is clearly going nowhere so I'm just filling in the gaps until we've finished our drinks and can go home".

Maybe I shouldn't've kept that as an inner monologue. :lmao:

I guess it depends............ Some websites are good than others. Just don't give up and conclude that all are the same. I believe there are good ones out there and you can probably end up meeting the right one online..............

I've had decent luck so far, going on my first date on tuesday, decided to do dinner, guess i'll find out if that was a good choice or not. On my 3rd message I gave her my number and she texted me within a few hours, and talked a bit that night then 2 days later asked her out.

Although the only thing I find annoying about almost every girl i've talked to, I have to ask all the questions, then all they do is ask them back at me with nothing new, they do give good answers though. So i'm the only one keeping the conversation going. Oh well, don't know until I meet them in person. And like said, i'm not big on that many messages back and forth i'd rather exchange numbers and get a date pretty quickly and see if there's anything there.

If they just answer your questions, there's a 95% chance it will go nowhere from my experience!

Well my first online date, that was an experience. Compared to the stories here it wasn't bad at all, but it was nothing great. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she was definitely heavier then in her pictures, didn't find her attractive at all. Didn't even offer to pay or even part of it, not a big deal I guess but at least some fight for the check would be nice. Though from her comments i'm pretty sure she's going to want to go out again, I mean dinner went on for 2.5 hours but I can't say it was anything great.

At least I can look at the bright side, I tried it and it made me a ton less interested in dating right now.

If it's any consolation, most of my first dates have been mediocre. Not bad enough to write about here, and not good enough to write about here either. Sometimes even the mediocre first dates end up with second dates (but if the second one isn't much better there won't be a third).

You mentioned that she's heavier than her pictures... is that because her pictures were old and she's put on weight? or because her pictures only showed her face? or because her pictures were taken from carefully selected angles? You can't do much about the first one, but for the others you might eventually be able to view the photos with a more critical eye (if her weight or other aspects of her appearance are important to you) and ask "if the photos look like this, what will she look like when I meet her?" - that's a good game to play when all the photos are 'professional' studio shots, too.

Her pictures weren't quite full body but close. The big place I noticed the weight was in her face that was not evident in the photos, they could of been old but they did look just like her, she kinda had the double chin going on and I was completely turned off by that. I just didn't find her attractive at all. Oh well. I'm pretty sure she'd be happy to go out again she hinted at it a couple times during the night, but I have zero interest.

Who says all the guys online are losers? I have several dates lined up for my overseas visit so have been coordinating days, things to do, etc. This from one man who was rereading our past emails:

One bit I did not remember writing is about you:

" ........lovely and highly intelligent even though wholly unrealistic! You take time and space by the scruff of their necks and bend them to your will ......... unfortunately, they spring back again when you sleep. It is very hard to believe your age. You even sound young! And a cultured accent; I didn’t hear you say: 'Y’all listen up now.' even once!"

It's a shame that we have no future together. Still, I know we will enjoy each others company for lunch that day. And he is taking me for a ride in his red Lotus Evora which I am really looking forward to.

Hey, nice find! I just checked out this site...It has some really good dating psychology, not the bogus/pop psychology you see on those big name sites.

The people on there seem a lot classier than other sites too.

I don't see the point of that website. You "meet" people on their forum. No different than here then, but we have more members while that forum seems dead. Unless I missed something... Not that I'd ever date anyone from this forum.

So okay I got into the online dating scene lately so I'm unsure how to navigate the waters a little bit. I've been messaging a guy for about a week and its been pretty basic stuff, just getting to know each other. At what point should the messages get a little deeper than just the basics? And is there a general stage when you move on to phone calls? Thanks for the help everyone.

I joined Zoosk a few days ago and I've been talking to a couple girls that actually decided to respond to my messages...and got numbers from two of them. It's really nice to meet new people and I've been able to hold conversations pretty consistantly.

If anything it's building my own confidence. Had one girl ask ME for a coffee date sometime...I was trying to figure out when to do that but now we'll see where it goes from there. :) Pretty excited but at the same time cautious.

Online Dating is pretty bad sometimes. I had decided to make an okcupid profile back in january and got off to a bad start but when spring started coming in it got better. Im currently dating a guy I met and talked to on okcupid so you just have to keep at it and the good guys/girls will start showing up.

Not true. Some people are far more appealing online

Boy is that the truth. I met a guy end of August online. Really handsome, professional, courteous and considerate. We had an email correspondence for over a month and fascinated each other. But we were taking it slow. Unfortunately, it's a long distance relationship and neither are in a position to just leave our careers or obligations and go off to meet the other person right now. He finally asked for my phone number and I heard from him for the first time last night. He called me and was ****-faced drunk. What a turn-off! Maybe he was nervous about talking to me the first time but I would rather him be nervous, like me, than to call me up mumbling and slurring his speech. His excuse was that he was jet-lagged. Yeah, right! What a poor impression he made on me. I also feel relieved that I missed a bullet by getting involved with someone with a drinking problem. I no longer wonder how such a good looking, seemingly having all together guy, didn't have a permanent partner in life. I now know why. He's TROUBLE!
