HappyLove
Maybe you should give some examples. I've been fortunate no crazies and I've given out my number quite a few times. I also suggest using the burner app if you have iPhone you can give the burner number until you're sure about who your dating. The only thing I hate is too much texting I've been guilty of it myself but if someone gives their number I say definitely call first contact not text, for me anyway. clia
When I met my dude we met for a drink, that was going well so he asked me to get a bite. So that went well too and we ended the night at a local pub. We didn't have a date planned out, we just wanted to see if we liked each other and it kind of went from there. Ha! This is the exact same first date I had with my boyfriend. We met up on a Sunday afternoon to drink some beers while watching the Bears game, then when it was going well, moved on to another place for dinner, then closed it out at a pub nearby. I'm a really active person, but I would never want to go running, kayaking or do anything active on a first date. Part of the fun of dating is getting dressed up cute, and I think I look way cuter when I'm not all red faced and sweaty. I save that for when I know the guy a little better... MrTurk
1 hour away is borderline, but anything more is too much. If you both work, it will prevent you from seeing each other, except on weekends, which you might find too seldom, especially if you really hit it off. Plus, it has all the makings of a LDR right from the start. Thats the thing....I truly believe many people that do OLD....are so willing to do anything just to find someone. They are not looking down the road, as to the implications of how a LDR will play out. They want someone first...and worry about making it work, and all the other crap later. I think I am definitely in the minority with my line of thinking. I have got chastised by many women for not "giving it a chance". I also believe that many people online embrace the LDR. They use OLD to find someone far enough away on purpose....so it gives them a built in buffer zone, or in other words a "part-time" relationship. They are free most of the time....and every so often they get companionship and sex....and then the ship the person back home, and are free again till the next time. I dont want a part-time relationship. I want someone local. I want to be able to call her up any day...and say hey lets grab a bite to eat and a movie...without having an hour or more drive to and from. . Harradin
Joined POF a few days ago, my mates seem to be having success with it. Not sent out any messages, only had one woman view my profile and one woman who wanted to 'meet me,' both I wasn't attracted too. Too anxious to send messages out weirdly though, my profile is pretty laughable though

jcrew11
Now that I think about, women should limit themselves to writing to just a few guys (if they don't return messages). Why not just send winks or just short e-mails? Broaden the net. I would say, try to send out first e-mails to at least 5-10 guys a week. I feel that women who fail at getting responses in online dating are being just too focused on reading the profile and focusing on 1 or 2 guys.
Dusk1983
If you're a man, do not use OLD unless: 1) you are extremely good-looking and tall 2) you are extremely witty If you've got those attributes, what the f**k are you doing on OLD anyway?

Leigh 87
My current bf met a girl on OLD. He stupidly invited her over to his house for a dinner date. He is not the type to sleep around, it was a legit dinner. Anyways. He sensed she was a bit bonkers (as he terms it, he is from the UK:love:) So, one night at 3 or 4 am, he gets a knock on his window; it is the girl from the date. She knocked on his window saying " come f^ck me" :lmao::lmao: Another girl he met seemed nice. She was good looking and seemed alright. When in the car, however, he discovered her escort business card next to him. She did not hide it. Poor girl. She apparently told him " I just want to be loved for who I am" He wasn't having any of it though. Since he does not use hookers at all himself. Much less date them. Last but not least; the last guy I met and very briefly dated was a pretty decent guy. I love his personality. Anyways. The very first girl he met via OLD had a moustache. Enough said:lmao:
Under The Radar
This thread is an attempt to have fun with some of the more popular descriptions people tend to use when it comes to OLD. We are all familiar with the terms people will sometimes use to market themselves in a positive and attractive light. Then, when it comes time to meet up ...... we find their description was anything but honest . This thread is an attempt to have fun and joke around about the issue. Not to mask cruelty or instigate gender wars. Let's come up with humorous descriptors for both men and woman and the corresponding interpretations. For Instance: 1. Energetic = Crazy 2. Drama Free = Really Crazy 3. Multi Tasker = Attention Deficit Disorder 4. Multi Faceted = can't hold down a job 5. Likes all music except rap = Racist You get the idea; Remember, the theme of this thread is to be done in good nature . Anyone have anymore contributions?

MrNate 2.0
As you know, I've ran some tests just to see what the experience was like for a very attractive man on online dating. Of course I thought the profile would be dismissed as fake, but turns out no one really caught on. I received well over 200 visitors and 50 messages in about 48 hours. All the messages were incoming. I did not have to generate a single outgoing message. Some straight up told me I was beautiful. Some didn't read the profile at all. Some of course tried a different line here and there as well. I also must say the women were just about all gorgeous. It was kind of interesting. All in all it's safe to say this guy wouldn't have to do much to succeed in OLD. It pretty much comes to him on a silver platter. I'd say similar to a hot/average woman. (Case in point, see the OLD thread just created by isisisweeping here) However, a big concern of mine would definitely be for the average man. I'm sure these women get hundreds of messages per week. I'm sure a fair share of them are from men who can't even properly construct a sentence, but I know there in fact has to be a portion that are from just your average guy. The scary part is that those messages probably get lost along with the others, so standing out must be even harder, when you don't have stellar looks. Of course I don't think most women run into that. The fact they message me when I'm sure they get enough in their inbox makes me ask a few questions: Are all the NY men that bad? (Doubtful) Are their standards very high? (could be) So in terms of success I'd rank it: hot woman, hot man = average woman, average man There's no way I'd personally advocate OLD for a man. The competition just isn't worth it. When you think about it, if you were receiving tons of messages, the filter is just going to go to the cream of the crop of the average men. I'm still considering creating an average man profile to compare. I think success is probably most likely to come in real life, where you get a chance to leave the best impression of yourself, instead of a resume'. Just food for thought. Any opinions? (P.S. If a woman you're into ever tells you that you're lame/boring, never take it to heart. I've received many, many unimpressive messages.) Thegreatestthing
The only reason OLD is hard for men is because you have the majority of men vying for the attentions of the top two percent of women. Looking at "favourites" numbers, the majority of men are chasing a minority of women - those that are drop dead gorgeous or have a hint of sleaze in their photos and profiles. deathandtaxes
But the numbers I've seen show that for most sites, the population actually skews female. I've run search in my local area on match and change the male looking for female to the opposite and get really close numbers. I wish maybe match would charge more to keep the shotgunning guys off the site. Or perhaps charge a per message fee. Those guys ruin it for the rest of us.
Lady2163
Well, I've sent out probably close to 500 messages to average men and above average men. All ages. Ive had two responses, both of them were just starting something with someone new. Their profiles were hidden the next day. I'm really not homely, but I am not hot.
