A Jehovah Witness and Christian dating...?

Recommended Posts

He wants to become a Jehovah Witness. I'm Christian and have no desire to convert to this religion. If we became a couple or married do you think it could work out?

I thought Jehova's Witness were a sect within Christianity therefore he is a Christian by definition, no?

Depends how open minded you both are about this whole thing.

Orthodox Christianity would say no because Jehovah Witnesses do not belive in the Trinity. Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and many will demand a baptism using those words. I advised no, "not at this point" not because of that but because of how Witnesses live out their faith. And new converts tend to be the most enthusiastic or fanatical in following their new way. I belive conversions should predate relationships as a general rule.

To expand the who is a Christian awnser. Suppose the OP was Catholic since they publish their rules for all to see and they are the largest population. In that case her church would treat Jehovah Witness, Mormons, Ingelsi ni Cristo, Oneness Pentecostals, and Apolisitcs among others who self identify as Christian just like they would Muslims or Hindus. A marriage ceremony may take place but that woman would not be able to take communion until the husband converts and is baptized or she becomes a widow. The same with Quakers, Salvation Army, or Evangelicals who do believe in the holy Trinity do not follow the example of Jesus and get baptized.

Meanwhile if a kid's Methodist parents had him baptized but neither he or his family never stepped in a church again before getting the Catholic bishop's permission then that couple will have a "sacramental" marriage since he is seen as a Christian as a result of being baptized as an infant and the woman can participate fully in Catholic church life including taking communion.
