tink85048
HELP!!! My bf is going in for an angiogram tomorrow. His cholesterol level was 497...no kidding. The doctor just about fell out of his chair. I don't know what that means. What is going to happen? Does this mean heart problems, blocked arteries, bypass???? Anyone else have similar problems
tiki
Not a doctor here... but cholesterol and triglycerides should stay under 200. He needs to reduce his fat intake. Cholesterol can increase with high intake of animal-derived products...that's all your meats, dairies, all that. Most docs would recommend a good cardiovascular workout and decrease fat intake. No fried foods either! He needs to have it checked often.
Leikela
If he doesn't lower his cholesterol then it WILL mean major heart problems when he gets older. How old is he exactly? They are doing an angiogram to determine whether there are any major blockages in his arteries. They run a dye throughout his arteries and can see if the dye stops at all or narrows. If so, that indicates a blockage or partial blockage. They are doing it probably as a precautionary measure since his cholesterol is sooo high. With that many lipids (fats) in his blood, it could easily cause blockages since lipids stick to the arteries and then get hard and form plaque which makes it harder for blood to get to the heart. It's good that they are doing this. It could only help your boyfriend. I hope he's ok!
dudesomewhere
my cholesterol is something around 120 what kind of diet does he have...all american fast food with no holds barred on the mayo, blue cheese dressing, ranch, etc etc? I'm not sure if my sister and husband still do this but they put blue cheese dressing on top of their fatty ass steaks. Man that's extreme to me...I always get a grimace when I see them do that...it's quite amazing they enjoy that. To me it's like eating a stick of butter but also topping it with a cup of melted butter because it's not buttery enough, lol
