TG1
If anything what guy doesn't want a son for his first child, especially if he has his son with his girlfriend and or wife, but me personally in my opinion it doesn't matter if I have a son or a daughter as my first child
Radu
For me it doesn't matter either. There are some ... stereotypes and expectations for the first child, many might even call it the 'trial', 'prototype'.
Author TG1
Yes but personally I hope I have a son first and why, so I can name him after myself or name him after my father
pink_sugar
Yeah the typical chauvinistic society, which is still very prevalent in countries like China and India, especially an issue in China with the one child policy and girl babies being killed. Of course they didn't think about the possibility of boys outnumbering girls. Anyways, I was shocked when I met my husband. He's always wanted a girl first. Kudos to you for breaking that tradition. MuscleCarFan
I personally want a daughter first. I would name her Alexis (I just like that uncommon name, lol). I thought about naming a son after my late father, but my wife (pink_sugar) already has two people with the same name on her side (her brother and her uncle).
Author TG1
Why I want a son first is because I feel that with a son as my first child, I will be able to do the type of things with him that I wouldn't be able to if I had a daughter first
pink_sugar
You wouldn't be able to do those things with him if you had him as second child?
pink_sugar
How come you created two threads on this? http://www.loveshack.org/forums/familial/family/337212-each-guy-wants-son-his-first-child
Author TG1
You wouldn't be able to do those things with him if you had him as second child? Having a son, most men want sons for their first child while most women want a daughter as their first child
pink_sugar
I got that from your first post, but you also said you didn't mind either way? I'm a little confused.
stillafool
If anything what guy doesn't want a son for his first child, especially if he has his son with his girlfriend and or wife, but me personally in my opinion it doesn't matter if I have a son or a daughter as my first child I use to think this as well but now I hear more men wanting a little girl. WTF?
Author TG1
I got that from your first post, but you also said you didn't mind either way? I'm a little confused. I don't mind but also in the sense that my personal preference is a boy first but if my girlfriend let's say for example had a daughter instead as my first child, I honestly would not mind that either but if it really had to come down to it, I think I would want a son first
MuscleCarFan
I use to think this as well but now I hear more men wanting a little girl. WTF? Is there something wrong with wanting a daughter first? o_O
stillafool
No I think it's great just different. Many years ago men wanted little boys to buy footballs, basketballs for and take them to do guy things. I guess they wanted a little man like them around. Women wanted the little girls to dress up and do girly things for and with. I think it's just very different now.
SunandMoon
Either way I would be happy. I'd love them the same regardless.
Author TG1
Yes I guess we can all agree to disagree
pink_sugar
I think being more progressive is a good thing, because look what chauvinism has done to China and India where there are more men than women. Soon these boys will come home with boyfriends because there aren't enough girls.

Kudos to you for breaking that tradition. pink, you messed up on this one. There is nothing wrong for a guy to want for his first born to be a son as there is nothing wrong for a girl to want her first born to be a daughter [or viceversa]. There is no reason to fly off the handle like this for what is essentially an innocent comment, maybe the OP struck a nerve there with you. And if you want to get into this one, in China girls are favoured over boys after the economic development that took place there, things are changing. Furthermore, in most cases of IVF in the western world the couples select a girl 75% or more of cases, as she is 'easier to raise'. But i'm sure you don't fell that is 'bad' at all. You are also using the word chauvinism wrong [it comes from a french officer who was named Chauvin]. What you are refering to is male chauvinism which means : male chauvinism noun the beliefs, attitudes, or behavior of male chauvinists (men who patronize, disparage, or otherwise denigrate females in the belief that they are inferior to males and thus deserving of less than equal treatment or benefit). In which case again, China falls off your list. India could be considered under western standards, but you would need to understand the society first [first of all in India there are 3 genders, not 2].
pink_sugar
No, no personal nerve was struck whatsoever. I was just pointing out some issues, no intent of flying of the handle at all. The OP said themselves in the first post that he wouldn't care either way the gender and then made a comment a few posts later how he'd really prefer a boy. These are two conflicting statements. I was confused by that.
Author TG1
I am sure with all men they want boys as their first child, because that is how it's always been
pink_sugar
Umm, why did you open the thread if that's what you think?
MuscleCarFan
I am sure with all men they want boys as their first child, because that is how it's always been Um, no. Not EVERY guy wants their first child to be male. That is a stupid and misguided sweeping generalization that simply is not true.
dreamingoftigers
My husband was adamant about wanting a girl. He said he'd be happy either way but he thought a little girl like me would be wonderful. He got his wish - sort of. She looks just like him, blue eyes, blond hair roundish face. She's adorable and they are two peas in a pod. He wants another girl.

That is great, I know if I have a daughter one day, I would want her to look more like her mother than to look like me and if I had a son, I would not want him to inherit my nose but I would want him to inherit some of my facial features but I would want him to look like his mother
dreamingoftigers
I figured with our chemistry that we'd have a bunch of fair girls and dark boys. I was hoping she would look more like him. I am not particularly fond of my looks and have been most grateful for her inheriting a lot of my mental functions. She's quite pretty. I am quite surprised by that. She gets loads of complements. I'm proud of her. She's a brave little thing
