packersgirl
I have never seen a thread reach over 100 posts... I'm sure there have been a few, but I thought it might be fun to see if we can get this one to reach over 100. Anyone else up for the challenge?
moimeme
There's one someplace that's over 500. If you want a couple hundred replies, start a discussion about religion, bigotry, or politics. The floodgates will open.
Author packersgirl
Yeah, I figured there was some thread some time ago that reached some sort of post high... Starting a discussion would be the best way to go about reaching 100 posts, so, here's some questions for all ya'll who like questions. We're going with religion, since that subject is near and dear to my heart... 1. Have you come to a place in your spiritual thinking where you know for certain that if you were to die today that you would have enternal life? 2. Suppose you were to die today, and stand before God, and he were to ask you "Why should I let you into my heaven?", what would you say?
YellowLioness
This Eugenie chick posted something about sleeping around on her boyfriend. I think she may well be over 100 posts by now. lol. So, Moimeme is right. Post about something controversial.

DerangedAngel
I'm pretty sure this will really get some posts coming!!!...!!! Maybe, but I don't think anyone will really be looking for it in the Spirituality & Religious Beliefs forums. -DA

I'll help your little experiment. 1) I am Buddhist and I believe in reincarnation. Eventually I hope to reach nirvana and end the cycle of samsara. 2) I don't believe in God or a heaven. Author packersgirl
The funny thing is, I had this posted in the water cooler area, then they changed my title and switched it to the spirituality area! I was so disappointed when they did , and yet shocked to see 13 posts this evening when I logged on to LS!!! Fayebelle- Thanks for answering the questions =) Its always a blessing to see others that have accepted God's love and gift. If you don't mind me asking, how has God blessed you recently? DerangedAngel- Hehe... although I disagree about Bush being an evil bastard, it did make me giggle. I'm not used to people just coming right out and bashing our President! I'm curious, why do you think that? Olivia- Thanks for answering my questions too! Although we may be different religions, I am ALWAYS interested in knowing about other religous beliefs. I know my views will never change, I'm set in my ways and my beliefs, but I like to know what other people may be placing their trust in. How do you reach nirvana and whats the cycle of samsara? Naive- Your 4 posts have made a difference! And since I asked everyone else a question, I'll ask you one too... Would you rather eat a spoonful of salt, or lick peanut butter from your mom's foot? Random question, I know. But I didn't want you to feel left out
Kizzyfur
I'm with DA on the Bush issue... LOL Another subject that seems to get people going is abortion....
DerangedAngel
Well, he is not an evil bastard, I guess. But a bastard. A few reasons why personally, I don't like the guy: -He supports the USA Patriot Act, denying our basic freedoms from unreasonable search in the name of protecting us from "terrorism". -He is anti-choice. -He is pro-death penalty. -Does he even know about the Constitution's separation of Church and State in the First Amendment? -He gave tax cuts to the rich. -Healthcare? Will we ever get it back? -Lied about his reasons for going to war. -He's still supporting Israel. Hello, Geneva Convention. No territories for them, nope. -He supports the creation of a federally mandated second class containing exclusively the gay (shudder George, shudder) members of the country. -Those damn activist judges. Yeah. Sure, George. What would you call the judges that oppose Roe v. Wade? That's different? Okay. -Petty reason here, but, my 5 year old niece speaks better English than our president. But wait, where did he graduate? Yale? Oh! He's so special now. What was his GPA? -Deranged
Kizzyfur
Originally posted by DerangedAngel -Lied about his reasons for going to war. I know it's not good to spread rumors. But this one is questionable. I heard that his father took us to war with Iraq over oil wells. Sadam wouldn't come down in the price he was asking for them so we went to war with them. His son is taking up where he left off from Desert Storm. Is what I heard through the grapevine. Besides, isn't this war supposed to be over? If it is, why is Bush rerecruiting previously discharged and even retired military men and women to send over there? Why are we wasting our time "rebuilding" their country if they're still trying to destry it? I say pull our troops out till they get sh*t worked out. Let them realize the damn war is over. THEN help them to rebuild whatevers left. I'm all for our troops, just against the war itself. Oh, and Clinton may not have been the best president, but he had our countries budget back in the positive without a lot of bull**** tax increases. Bush has us right back in the hole again. So he's increased taxes left and right and discontinued many benefits for us not so rich folks to try to make up for the loss.
Author packersgirl
I don't know much when it comes to politics. So reading everyones opinions is interesting but confusing at the same time. Since I don't know much, I don't know what to believe. I don't know what he did reguarding the separation of church and state. Healthcare is something I need, so I would like to see something better along those lines. As for the war, I know it was necessary and I'm not so sure he lied to us about reasons for it. Personally, I hate war, but I know that wars will be fought as long as the world is still around. And as for him supporting Israel, whats so bad about that? Like I said before, I'm not much on politics. It all confuses me so I live a worry free life reguarding political issues. I figure society will have it their way anyway, so me knowing whats going on and voting and whatever isn't going to make a difference.

YellowLioness
I think that she was referring to all of the I HATE BUSH posts in the Current Events forum. lol I posted there. I wanted to see how people would react. I like getting alternative points of view on things, because sometimes I feel that I miss the bigger picture. Now we'll get to the most important thing, which is your post. I believe in God, but not organized religion. This includes any and all organized religion: Baptists (what i was raised, southern baptist at that :-O), catholics, wiccans, whatever. I take in the doctorin, but I sort of fit them into my little world structure. lol. I think God is everything, everyone, all the time. God is space, time, stars, dirt. You name it. WE all are part of God. I believe that when we die that we become part of God again, except for some lost souls that for some reason are stuck in this demension. I think that we are here to learn life's lessons, and that we all have a life map that we plan out before we start our lives. I think that your conscience is directly related to that, (like when you get that gut feelings you're wrong, you're going against your life map) Souls are recycled so they can learn many lessons through many life times. I think many souls are very old, while some are very young. I believe that souls are constantly being created or "born" by God. I believe in angels and demons. I believe in ghosts. I also believe that God is in science, and that science just promotes how wonderful and amazing that God truly is. Well, there are my two cents... lol. maybe more like four cents, lol. ;-)

Now I realize that every day starts w/this blessing and it makes it a little easier to face each day- knowing he was w/me 1st thing this a.m. lets me know he'll be checking in all day. Little Skynard anyone? Be a simple kind of man....something you can love and understand If I keep my faith simple and leave the complex to HIM- my life is much happier and blessed. Fayebelle
You'll note I speak of faith not religion... I view spirituality like Yellow does. God, spirits, and nature are blessing each of us everyday- I feel no need to attend a church to find or keep my faith and I share fellowship in God w/my friends and family. I'm not knocking organized religion- I just don't feel a need for it at this time in my life.
lnichols
Yes, Bush is an evil bastard. Without sounding like Michael Moore, (Now he might get 100 posts), I think the reason we went to war has a direct link to the President's close ties with Haliburton. (What about that there no-bid contract to do EVERYTHING over there?) I live about a mile from a Haliburton plant. My son tells his friends that they make evil clone robots there. And yes, I feel like if I died today, I would go to Heaven. At least I HOPE!
YellowLioness
Tell me all your thoughs on God, 'cause I'm on my way to see her... Yeah, I don't like to knock other's spiritual beliefs, especially if organized religion provides them the structure that they need. I try to be as open as I can. I like to think that I'll go to heaven, too. :-) I don't fear death. I fear dying. I mean... truthfully, with out trying to sound suicidal, I can't wait to be part of God again!
