Nikki82
RiverRunning- Can we get an update? What has happened since your last post? I, too, agree that you should not give a dime for this house. While Foreclosure sucks for them, it IS better in the long run. OR find real estate investors in your area that would be willing to pick up the property (for a really low cost). That might be a way out too... Have you ever seen signs in your area that say "we buy houses"? Call those numbers!! Those are Real Estate Investors. I know. I'm one myself (in Baltimore). Good luck. Author RiverRunning
Their home insurance wouldn't cover it. They did manage to call around and found somebody who was willing to do the job for $2200 - the next cheapest was around $3500, $4k. So far (it's been about a week), it seems to be the fix they needed. From my understanding, they used a bonus that my dad got from work, some of his 401k, and some from credit cards. If it had been over $2500, I know she would have been trying to call me. Their city had a program to help pay for repairs but it involved getting a minimum of 3 quotes, having city inspectors come out, even potentially fixing other unrelated problems, so they decided not to do it (on account of the additional money for fixing said other problems...if the city could even come through with the money). I'm relieved, in any case. Thanks for your help, guys.

Wolfcub
Let me ad my 5 cents: you want to keep good realtions with the rest of the family and that means financing your parents, well that depends on what the others think about your financial situation. Do they know exactly how your bank account looks like? No. They may assume but they don't know. Then do tell them that you had some unexpected expenses, well, I don't know what you may have to pay out of the blue in US, maybe some kind of medical expenses, of your home needed some repairs or whatever. + in those times of crisis you do not get any bonuses at your job that used to be there, meaning you get less income than previously. bla, bla, bla.... You are getting manipulated, so why not give them the same medicine? To make it look even more truthful, ask for their financial help. Do you think you will ever see it coming?
