BetheButterfly
Hello, I thought it'd be cool to have a place to post comforting passages from a Book that is precious to you. Now, of course not every book is precious to every person. However, there are books that have been dear to the hearts of many people for centuries. This thread is open for comforting quotes from the Tanakh, Buddhist' writings, the Bible, the Qu'ran, and other manuscripts that you may hold dear. This thread is not for arguing or making fun of the Scriptures that are precious to another person/people. This thread is not to post controversial passages of any book (if you would like to start another thread for that, that is fine, though most people who hold that book dear would appreciate polite debate/discussion instead of mere insults.) One of the books that for me has many very comforting passages is Psalms. Psalms is a collection of songs/writings of King David and other people. King David lived a looong time ago (940 BC) but his prayers to God still encourage me to this day!!! I am so glad he wrote them down and people have preserved them!!! Below is one of my favorites I boldened the parts that I like best! Psalm 42 Psalm 42 TNIV - BOOK II Psalms 42 "1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” 4 These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One[d] with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng. 5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. 6 My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon —from Mount Mizar. 7 Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. 8 By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life. 9 I say to God my Rock, “Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?” 10 My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, “Where is your God?” 11 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God." The Psalm above touches me because of the references to nature. I love God and I love nature
M30USA
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them. -Psalm 34:7 This verse isn't an allegory or symbolic. It's real. And that's why it's so powerful to me. Notice how it doesn't say that he rescues good people, or smart people, or religious people...but those who "fear" him.
