Everytime I think im doing okay, my ex contacts me and totally screws up my mood - now I know I should probably just call him up and say "hey!! stop calling me - we broke up you schmuck, so what gives!" ---but we go to the same University, and he's in my Major, so im more likely than other people to run into him unfortunately.

His brother's getting married today, and I guess he's feeling lonely or something with all the drama of the wedding going on, he's feeling lost in all the celebration-because boo hoo, the spotlight isnt on him - whatever, he's such an attention junkie.

He wants to go to lunch sometime??? We dont talk, we're not friends- so I told him im really busy lately, Im working 2 jobs and Im just plain tired. And his reply was, ok maybe sometime later then...I dont think he gets it,,,I DONT want him in my life anymore, and he for some reason thinks he still has a place there! Why do ex's do this??!!

I don't know why -- some people just can't let go.

You have to tell him in plain english. I DO NOT WANT YOU IN MY LIFE. WE ARE OVER. FIND SOMEONE ELSE. Then just leave him alone. Don't respond to him. You don't have to have big conversations with everyone in your major, so just treat him like any other stranger you see on a regular basis. Say hi if you pass each other, but don't stop to talk.

Tell him you really think it's best that the two of you don't pursue any time together. The relationship is over and you both need to get on with your lives. And as he continues to call, keep declining. Eventually he'll stop.

These are after shocks from your break-up. I agree that it sucks: you're on the road to emotional recovery and, out of the blue, your ex re-establishes contact and those messy, bad old feelings rise to the surface. All that progress is lost.

Your ex is not doing this to hurt you. At some point you provided him with a great deal of pleasure and emotional comfort, and he's trying, futilely at that, to go "home" again. It ain't going to happen. And even if it does, it would only be a matter of time before you guys break-up again. Breaking up is harder for some than others.

I'd send him one final e-mail telling him no more contact or attempts at communications. Tell him the relationship is over, done, stick-a-fork-in-it dead. No contact is the name of the game. It's time to be brutal.
