morrigan
I was staying the night at a friend's home a about 3 years ago when I saw this large, flat, angular blue-white light just hanging in the middle of the room. I saw it for maybe under 10 seconds, then it just was gone. There were no lights on in the bedroom, and both the blinds and the curtains were closed. It was one of those things you believe your mind had made up--an extremely bright pane of light that you can't see through just doesn't hang in the middle of a room. Both my friend and her husband said that they have seen the same pane of light in their bedroom on the other side of the house, as well as their living room, mostly at night, but on at least two occasions during the day. My friend felt at times that something was watching her. Whether or not it just is some trick of light or if it really is something, it never has harmed anyone or moved anything physically. It doesn't scare them, they just don't know what it is.
packersgirl
I decided to read this post at the wrong time! For the first time in weeks I can't sleep, so I came here to catch up on what I've missed since this afternoon. Its almost 1am right now and I'm reading about ghost stories... talk about a good way to scare the crap out of me right before I go to sleep! Or at least try... I have seen something once. Whether it was an angel or a ghost, I'm not sure. It was about 8 years ago. I was in Jr high... 7th grade I think, but I was behind in my homework. I didn't finish it all in time before I had gymnastics practice, and I was so tired when I got home at 9:30 that I fell right asleep. I remember asking God to wake me up at 11 so I could finish my homework. Sure enough, when I opened my eyes, it was 11pm. I looked at the foot of my bed and there was this white blob thing. I only got a second to focus on it because it shot straight out the door when I looked at it. I also have lived in this apartment for over a year now. My roommate and I swear its haunted. I'm usually home alone, and again, I'm home alone right now... talking about ghosts, at 1am... anyway, I'll be in the bath, soaking my cares away, and I'll hear doors slam shut. Actually, anytime I'm in the bathroom that happens. I freak out everytime thinking someone is in my apartment. I also have been sitting in my living room with my roommate on numerous occasions when we'll hear someone knock on our front door... but no ones there. My big wooden door likes to swing open all by itself sometimes too. But nonetheless, nothing bad has happened. I'm not a big believer in ghosts themselves. I believe in angels and demons, and that what most of us experience are one of the two. Ok, I'm done with ghost stories... maybe looking at some jumping bunnies will calm my nerves. Much better
UCFKevin
I believe in them. But I ain't afraid of them. No one's ever been killed by a ghost, so screw it. Why be scared of them if they can't hurt you?
Author YellowLioness
Kevin... but... you DO look like Ben.... (ducks and hides). But, that's good! I mean... you look like him BEFORE Bennifer... (peeps head out and grins) ANYWAY, I hear that about the random door slamming. Once, Wil and I were over at another couple friends' upper level apartment that over looks this little ally, chilling out...watching The Bachelor, or some dumb stuff. We were drinking and laughing and getting ready to go party, when all of a sudden we hear this intense rapping on the door with lots of young, male voices. One clearly said, "Open up!" Of course, everyone is like, "police!!! OMG!" I don't know why we freaked out like that. I mean... we are all over the 21 mark, and we were just having a drink, and not being loud. We didn't have anything illegal and herbal with us that night, in case you were wondering. It was like the atmosphere in the room changed, and everything seemed dangerous. Denise and I hunkered down, and our respective men went to go outside to see what it was. We heard some steps in the ally, but the guys were down there by that time, and didn't see anyone to cause the footsteps that Denise and I heard from the upstairs apartment. Anyway, the more we thought about it the more we realized that we didn't hear any foot steps running up the stairs before the banging on the door. We also didnt hear any after the knocking was over. From the sound of the voices, it would have been at least four guys. When ever Wil or Paul leave the apartment together and Denise and I remain behind, the boys sound like a heard of animals running down the stairs, or coming up them... doesn't matter. The stairs are old and creaky... The experience really shook us up. The boys kept going down and checking on the cars parked outside, Denise and I just talked about how the atmosphere changed, and if it could be their cats, or an angry neighbor... But, someone wanting us to quiet down would have not run off... A cop definately would have been like, "POLICE, OPEN UP!" then proceeded to muscle his/her way into the room. WE never figured out what it was. Denise told me about another time she felt strange: She had gone to the basement to check on the laundry when the the light blew out on her while she was inside, and the door slammed shut. She said that she started screaming, but the door was stuck beyond her strength of moving it. (Denise is really athletic, about 6 feet tall). She said that after that a cold wind blew all around her and the door popped back open. She said that she felt cold even though it was 80 and humid outside. Hrmmm...
Fayebelle
Did you know that in NY real estate agents HAVE to tell potential buyers if a house has been reported as haunted AND has proof to back the claims? That is how the story of Amityville began to be passed...Thru RE agents. No proof? Check into the turnover rate on that house BEFORE it became famous. People who moved in b/c they thought it was a bunch of BS were terrified and packing in usually less than a year.
Author YellowLioness
I would really like, in some ways, to be able to be skeptical. It must be nice. lol. Enjoy your lack of experience with the paranormal. :-) I wouldn't give up my gift for anything, but they do say ignorance is bliss. I don't mean that you're ignorant, Faux. You seem VERY intelligent, in fact. But, when stuff starts happening to you out-of-the-blue, eventually it gets to the point where you have to start t hinking to yourself, "There has to be something to this." :-) Fayebelle is right, a closed mind does wonders. So, perhaps if you open yourself up to the experience of communication with spirits, something will happen to you. If you've ever had an out -of- body experience, even in a dream, (like if you've flown), that's a step to understanding your spiritual nature and how the soul can detatch from the body and still "live." honey2005
About cats seeing things we don't...my friend used to have a cat that would stare off at just some random point (like most cats do) but then she would begin to follow it, which really didn't seem that strange, until she watched it go up EACH stair on the staircase, like someone walking. Really freaky.

jmargel
I believe in the supernatural. I bought my house back in '98, which was built in 1918. A previous owner lived there for about 40 years until she died in the house. Before buying it, the previous owners told me about this. After I moved in with my ex, I thought nothing of it, until one night when I knew I turned off the hallway light, I came home to it on. This has happened numerous times, along with my bedroom door closing for no reason. I'll be sleeping in the middle of the night, to wake up to the sound of it closing. You could also hear footsteps at times, but those were far & few in between. The ghost must have not liked my now ex-fiancee, because as soon as she moved out these things stopped. It really started up when my ex & me would argue. I guess it was the ghost's way of saying 'knock it off'. Weird.. I used to live in long island, NY, which our neighborhood had citings of ghosts and weird things would happen in our house as well. When we moved, an archologist bought the house and did some research, to find out the whole neighborhood was built on top of an indian burial ground. The price of houses there skyrocketed. My parents sold their house in 1980 for $30,000 it's now worth $180,000 without hardly any improvements.

morrigan
There was a case of homes in a subdivision being built over a cemetery near Houston, Texas. The cemetery was called "Black Hope" and had at least 60 unmarked burials in it, the majority of them poor black people who had been former slaves. The company that owned the property failed to notify the home purchasers about this graveyard; it wasn't until one of the homeowners started to dig a pool in his backyard that they found two of the graves. Other homeowners noticed strange sinkholes in their backyards. A number of the homeowners reported strange experiences, seeing appartions in their homes, voices, mysterious illnesses striking family members. The daughter of one of the homeowners died of a heart attack after attempting to dig up a sinkhole to prove that there were graves on the property. A number of the families left their homes and sued the company; they initially won a settlement via a jury, but the monetary award was later thrown out by the judge.
Craig
I've had 2 encounters with something. What it/they were I don't know although most people I assume would call them ghosts, so I will too. Encounter #1 I was 9 years old and saw a clear grayish figure dressed in old clothing walk across a wide doorway about 20 feet away from me. I ran screaming to my sister and told her what happened, she didn't seem frightened at all. Encounter #2 Having wasted an opportunity to get close to a ghost earlier in my life I decided to rush the next ghost I saw. I had to wait until I was 29 to see my next ghost. Here is what happened. One night I was sleeping in my apartment and awoke to see the grayish figure of an old woman looking down at me from the corner of my bedroom. Without hesitation and full of curiosity I threw back the bed covers and jumped at the ghost. As I got closer and closer the ghost just disappeared and the closer I got the faster it disappeared. I swiped at it with my hand and it just disappeared even faster. I came within about 3 to 4 inches of making contact with it. I had absolutely no fear seeing this ghost. Having jumped at the ghost from my bed I crashed into the wall and hit the floor HARD. Immediately I wrote down what had happened while the details were fresh in my mind. The next morning I woke up and recalled seeing the ghost. Wondering if it were just a dream I had a look at the spot where I landed on the floor. The top of my right fingers were scratched and I remembered reaching for the ghost. Then I looked up at the ceiling and for about 8 to 10 inches were the marks my fingernails had made as my hand went through where the ghost had been and hit the ceiling. I didn't tell anyone about this experience for a few years. And then something happened that completely changed the way I felt about what I saw. I saw this TV program on ghosts that write in the air. One of the photographs shown on the program was an extreme close-up of the ghost writing. When I saw it I just about sh*t because the writing had exactly the same detail and texture that I had seen in the ghost I jumped at. Then I felt like I wasn't alone, that other people have seen and photographed ghosts. Since then I haven't seen any ghosts but would love to see one again.
magda
I've always wondered about this: just after Kurt Cobain died, my sister and I went to listen to a cassette tape of Nevermind. We'd listened to it before. But this time, the entire tape was backwards. The actual tape played backwards. We tried it on multiple stereos in the house. Rewound, fast-forward. Backwards. I didn't let her listen to it any further so I couldn't say whether there were "messages" of some kind. I ripped all the tape out. I'm a chicken.
Papillon
That's pretty freaky, and I can imagine you were scared s***less. There has to be some rational explanation, though. A prank, maybe?
Author YellowLioness
this is just an update on my hauntings: My bf and I keep hearing whisperings. It sounds like someone keeps saying our names. Sometimes, we hear gigglings, and then a loud and abrupt, "SHHHH!" This occurs mostly at night. Then, the other day I was cooking pork chops for dinner, and something turned up one of the other burners while I was in another room. Unfortunately, the handle of the frying pan was situated over the burner, and when I touched it I got a mild burn. A while back, I tried to get some help with it, but it doesn't seem like anyone either believes me or cares. :-P I even posted on a ghost forum like two days ago, and they took it down because they thought I was fabricating the story. jmargel
Bubbles, that was my ex-fiancee. I'm getting married on Sat. actually. Yellow, the only thing I could recommend is having a Priest come over and bless your house. He did that to my parent's home and it worked out. He also blessed our dog at the time. 15 years later this dog was still alive, the vet could not see how she was still living, due to all the medical problems she had. We had to finally put her down, due to her being in misery.

Well, neither of us could figure out how a tape could get backwards like that. And since I broke the tape... I dunno. I lived with my parents at the time, and only she and I knew about the tape - it wasn't like we had roomies over pulling pranks.. and both of us were freaked. So who knows. Honestly, having it blessed is something I've thought about. I just hesitate because of the religious boundaries.

Leikela
Sorry for coming in late here on this conversation, but I just ran across this thread. I have always been interested in the paranormal and from the age of 10 I would go to the library and checked out all the books on the paranormal and read them all. I've always been the emotionally sensitive kind. I can sense happiness, dread, fear, etc... Not only do I sense feelings, but I feel what I sense as well. I can usually tell when there is a presence in a room and get a sense of whether it's nice or evil. If it's evil I won't stick around. I have an arsenal of pictures I've taken over the years of ectoplasm and orbs. I have EVP (recordings on tape) as well. I've been to many haunted places and graveyards. My favorite place to experience the paranormal is Gettysburg. This town is VERY VERY haunted. The house I grew up in I don't believe is haunted but there have been a few presences to swing through over the years. One time my dog started growling and looking up at the ceiling. Then he started whining and tried to hide under my desk while still staring at this same spot on the ceiling. I had this feeling of danger, so I just swooped him up and ran out of the room. I am convinced that my parents shore house is haunted though. When it was being constructed I took many pictures of it and got tons of orbs on the lower level. It was build over a bird sanctuary. Many times I would come down the stairs and the door leading to the garage would be wide open. I checked the door to make sure the knob wasn't loose and even pulled on the door to make sure there wasn't fault in the mechanism. Everything checked out fine. This kept happening over a few years and just shut the door and moved on. One time though, I was in the kitchen and heard the knob rattle. I immediately looked over and the door was in the process of opening itself. I saw the whole thing. I freaked and ran upstairs to tell my boyfriend who was taking a shower. You can also hear footsteps from downstairs when you're upstairs. My boyfriend has said he's heard these things as well at night when he's trying to fall asleep. I will post some recent pics I took. I have also posted an embossed version of it to show the depth of the orbs so they cannot be attributed to a camera defect. Enjoy!
