how to get motivation to go to the gym?

the gym is about a 30 min walk from my house, a lot of cross roads and busy traffic. how do i get the motivation to go?

 

i already go cheerleading so i am in a good shape i would just like to go to the gym when i ain't cheerleading. i prefer having someone to walk there with but noone i know goes to this gym as it's really expensive

Quick question: DO you feel the only way that you are going to work out is if you go to a gym?

 

How much is that costing you? Have you thought about buying a exercise system of some kind that can be in your bedroom? Would you be more motivated ?

How about going to the gym with your boyfriend - two birds with one stone in that I have seen your other threads and maybe a common interest will help strenghen your relationship

erm.. i dunno, i guess? it's £11 every month which isn't too bad, probably but they are quite expensive and i'd probably lose interest ha

yeah i have thought about my boyfriend as he's at the same gym but our work schedule is totally different from each other, and he only does weights at the moment not any cardio so i think he'd feel like he's leaving me alone

My H and I go to the gym together but do not go round the gym together - but we will chat to each other whilst there, talk about our workouts etc

 

There must be some time when you are both not working....

Only you can motivate yourself. If 30 minutes each way takes too much time out of your day on top of gym, find other modes of transport

Just like the tin says: I usually remind myself how I was before I started going to the gym and that thought alone is more than enough to get me motivated. But what works for me might not work for you.

Don't wait for motivation, just go when its time to go as you previously planed. Waiting for motivation that is not there can make you miss days. Missing days can result in set backs. Set backs can result in less motivation. So, motivated or not, just go. Many things are only daunting of scary before you start. Once you actually start, its fun and you'll be glade you didn't back out.

If you only want to do cardio (big mistake) and don't want to pay, just walk briskly or run in your neighborhood or in a park. I've never been to a gym in my life.

My motivation?

 

I don't want to experience DOMS again!

 

If you don't know what DOMS is...it's that soreness you feel after a workout when you haven't worked out in a very long time.

 

After a year of working out consistently, I was out for almost two months. Just started up again last week and decided to do a full body workout (dumb, I know)....holy crap I was in pain for almost three days.

First of all, you don't; you do not normally FEEL motivated until after you make yourself go to the gym regularly for about a month; you start to feel motivated after you make the gym a regular, weekly part of your life, and you start to FEEL the benifits.

 

As a starter though, when you really want to skip a workout or two, and do not feel like sticking to the plan because it feels like a drag, tell THIS to yourself:

 

- going to the gym, and making it a regular part of my life every single week, means I will feel better; my body will function better, and I will literally feel happier. The new influx of chemicals in my body will make me FEEl in a better mood, more often.

 

- I will look better; tighter, firmer, maybe thinner if you start off above the thinnest version of yourself

 

- active and fit people are generally more positive people in general, and are more successful in life. on average I mean. That is not to say there are not unhealthy, overweight people who are not successful.

 

 

 

 

You will look and feel better, and probably be a more positive person if you work out every week.

 

You get motivated AFTER you feel the benifits of working out. Not before.

I agree...make it a habit and you'll go automatically. I've heard it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. Committ to it for a months and I'm guessing you'll naturally continue.

 

I started running and kickboxing 2 years ago but rarely worked out before that. I committed myself to going for at least 3 months. Now, I crave it and feel totally abnormal and crappy if I miss a workout.
