Consolidated Discussion - A man's/woman's height in the search for relationships

I'm 5'8 and guys have told me they prefer shorter girls

5'8 is pretty damn ideal for me. Leggy and kissing is easy, not much crouching at all, almost eye level.

According to what a lot of men on here have said, they prefer women between 5'1" and 5'8"? That's a 7" range.

Most women, according to many guys on this forum, prefer a man over 5'10". Lets say anything up to 6'10". That's a 12"-plus range.

Ergo, men are pickier than women when it comes to height.

Well, ignoring the fact that there are a much larger range of women in the 5'1-5'8 range than men in the 5'10-6'10 range, I guess you are right. I do enjoy the creative attempt though.

online males usually don't have a restriction at all but most females do

You're pretty misinformed. I know with certainty that men go for younger women, like A LOT younger. They'd rather date someone who is 10-15 years younger than someone who is 2-3 years older (actually, even 2-3 years younger is not good enough for them  ). Guys my age are zero interested in me. :(

Many guys will say height doesn't matter to them, but I believe it does. Some prefer shorter women, some prefer taller women, most would make exceptions for the right woman, but very few don't care at all. Most guys would rather not date a woman who's taller than they are. I don't think too many care about women being too short though.

Basically, being average height (5'4"-5'6") is probably best when it comes to attracting men.

Well, I think we all have preferences. I mean if you ask anybody would they rather x versus y, they're gonna feel some way or another. Is it a safe bet to say most men would prefer to date shorter? Possibly. But that doesn't mean they are totally against dating taller.

I think from what I read on here, not in real life because I've seen nothing even close to what I read on here -- but from what I read, men would date taller or shorter regardless if they preferred something different, whereas a lot of women won't break their preferences. But then again it's all individual, so.

Considering MOST women are in the 5'1-5'8 range, and FEW men break 6 foot, that isn't a fair comparison.

6'10". At my height, I'm taller than 97-98% of the population. I don't know anyone over 6'6".

I knew there had to be guys out there who liked long legs.

I've gotten more complaints about my legs being too long than anything else, haha.

Same.

Guys 40 years my elder seem to find me acceptable though. lol.

Very true. I'm 42, and discounting the ones who want kids, I call them CAPs - Creepy Age Preferences. And I find it creepy even if I fall into their range - eg, 60 year old man looking for women under 45.

The kids thing shouldn't even factor into those under 35, yet it happens there too - eg, guy is 28, looking for someone 18 to 25.

5'8 would be only a bit shorter than me, that sounds perfect. :) Probably wouldn't be able to tell how tall a girl is, though, just if she's eye-level, slightly or noticeably taller or shorter.

Junior high, not junior in high school. 9 inches in 4 years = slightly over 2 inches a year. Then he grew another 7 inches over the next 4 years, so that's a little under 2 inches a year.

You want to talk about growing? I went from 5'10" at 16 to 6'4" at 18. That's a larger growth spurt than Admiral's.

I grew 6 more inches after I turned 16, so you never know.

5'2" is pretty short. I'm over a foot taller. Most girls I've dated we're other models or who looked like they could. They're almost never under 5'7".

Height is just one factor in attraction. A 5'10" guy with great facial aesthetics will do better than a 6'2" guy who looks like Herman Munster. But yes, I can get away with much more at 6'4" than when I was a 5'10" 16 year old.

6'10". At my height, I'm taller than 97-98% of the population. I don't know anyone over 6'6".
You really should try to keep your stories straight.

Shorter guys will indeed date taller women, but they will wish she was shorter, which to me is worse than sticking to your preferences.

I don't think he was saying he's 6'10". He was just laughing at the idea of including 6'10" in a height range.

o.O

do you mean 46?

I wear a 34 inch inseam and am 5'8. If you're 6'10 I assume you have much longer legs than me...

I guess it's all opinion. To me it's refreshing to date outside of your norm and see people as more than just measurements as opposed to only sticking to x height or above.

I went from 5'10"-6'4" from 16-18. 6 inches. That matches.

6'4" is more than a foot taller than 5'2". That matches.

Problem?

I'm 6'4". I was quoting that 5'10"-6'10" range. 36" inseam is very long. Most mens stores stop at 34.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a 36 inch inseam and I'm a foot shorter than him.

But I also wear heels, so my pants are cut to fit. FWIW, my BF is 6'2" and has a 34 inch inseam. Ppl can vary a lot in that way.

Ahh, that makes sense.

Most women's pants won't even offer 34. I have to special order them. I have very few pairs of pants and will more often wear shorts or skirts.

I just feel bad for the 7'2 guys that are eliminated in that scenario.
