joel Posted July 20, 2004 Share Posted July 20, 2004 some ppl i now like my neighbour don't want to learn or do anything. an example: he renovated his house which is like an older house 80 yrs old ok good. with his fence and back gate i don't -he hired ppl to do it for him. i don understand b/c with us we borrow books and buy the materials and do it ourselves. why u learn something. a feel of accomplishement. ahha i did it , i feel good. yes i can do it. not like some ppl who ask and tell ppl and hire ppl to do it for em.they never learn anything and become stupid. yea we are cheap -save moneyyyy, but why ask ppl to do it for u when u can do it urself. and our neighbour he can do it himself but ask ppl to do for him b/c he is lazy-stay at home he can do it but does not, don want to learn anything buyt play hockey. It's possible he knew how but was physically unable--it's possible he had a deadline and couldn't get it renovated in time--and it's probable that it's none of your business. Your neighbor, on the other hand, wants to spend the money to have someone else do it. Both options are fine, neither is better than the other. Maybe while he is paying people to work on his house, he is doing something else constructive with the time he's saving. Whatever the reason, it's his house, his money and his choice. Don't let it bother you so much. Focus on something else. Remember, it's his money, he can spend it as he pleases. Link to post Share on other sites

He has years of experience, and my reading a book on such topics could not possibly amount to a fraction of his skill. I would prefer to have a qualified individual, or team of individuals, work on certain things that I am unfamiliar with. While it is true that I can learn a great deal from reading books, there is, I find, a very necessary "hands on" part of learning such skills. While I can explain to my father precisely how to handle certain tasks that I have read about, his personal experience in doing so is far more important. I can understand perfectly how something works, but actually going out and doing it is usually entirely different. In any case, the reason for your neighbor's employment of others to help him do his work is not wrong, and I do not understand why you are concerned over it. Link to post Share on other sites
moimeme Posted July 21, 2004 Share Posted July 21, 2004 Does it amuse you to find fault? Is there any reason you need to feel superior to your neighbour or to other people? You could, just for the heck of it, try to see things from the other person's point of view. Maybe he figures some people are too cheap to hire good help and get a job done properly. He probably realizes that beginners rarely do things well and, rather than waste his time and money on doing it wrong, he hires experts who won't make dumb mistakes. Pretty smart, IMHO.
