Legs too thin and scars?

Recommended Posts

Need guys' opinions on this...

I'm pretty thin (5'4" 90 lbs) and fairly muscular. My hips are kinda wide for my body, and my legs are thin, so my thighs don't touch. (I basically have Whitney Port's body except a lot more toned). I've always been super self conscious about my legs because I think they are too thin. So I won't wear shorts, EVER, or even leggings or tight jeans.

I'm wondering if I am being self conscious for no reason? What is "too skinny" when it comes to legs?

Also, I wrecked my motorcycle a couple years ago and it left me with some nasty scars on one of my legs (it kind of looks like a shark bite) and I lost part of my calf muscle. I also had a lot of muscular atrophy in that leg so it's a little smaller all around than my other leg. I was already self conscious about my legs before...now it's even worse. If you saw a girl like this, what would you think?

This is NOT an attention seeking thread. It's something that seriously bothers me in day to day life and I feel too close to the issue to see it objectively. So any thoughts are appreciated.

You're beautiful just the way you are :)

You can wear shorts, it's too hot for pants :D

With the atrophy issue, no one probably notices it honestly. Details like that we notice on ourselves b/c it's our body, but others probably wouldn't know unless you showed them and explained it to them.

As long as I am attracted to you and your personality doesn't suck then it can be easily overlooked.

I am assuming MS is Mississippi. That has to be hot if you never wear shorts.

Yeah, it's definitely too hot for pants. That's what spurred me to ask this question. However I'm not so sure about the size difference being unnoticeable. It looks pretty apparent...:( But maybe you are right.

It's okay. You can wear shorts. :)

Well, we tend to be our own worst critics.

If a guy (I'm guessing you want to know if guys will still find you attractive?) would not like you for something like your leg being a little too small than he isn't worth you IMHO. :)

Are your legs healed enough for you to exercise them vigorously? You can always incorporate some basic bodybuilding principles into a workout regimen that will help restore size balance to you legs.

Also, have you always had thin legs? It could have a lot to do with genetics as well...I look like I have chicken legs because my calves just don't get very large even if they are strong...it is what it is... :o

Not a guy, but have you ever seen Padma Lakshmi (top chef host), she's gorgeous and has a giant scar on her arm that she never hides. She was in an accident years ago. I think part of what makes her attractive is that she doesn't really acknowledge it, it just is a part of her. And she's good with it.

I doubt I'd care. Legs have never done much for me, and they aren't what I'm looking at to decide if I think a girl is hot or not.

What I am looking at is: Bum, boobs, waist/hip curve, hair colour & length, and face. Not necessarily in that order. If they combine to what I consider attractive, legs scars or asymmetry will barely register.

So I'd say go ahead and wear what you like. Especially leggings or tight jeans, as they show off the bum :D

I would definitely wear shorts/skirt despite the scar. It is what it is, nothing to be ashamed of. Accidents happen, you aren't the only one with scars that's for sure.

Hokie is right, if you are healed enough you could consider exercises to get your legs get a bit bigger/stronger. That's good for you anyway.

I have some torn knee ligaments that make it hard to focus on that leg to work it out, but yeah I am trying to build the muscle back up. Nothing will help my calf though I don't think...since part of it is missing. It looks kind of strange, pretty much exactly what you would imagine a shark bite to look like.

And yeah I've always had thin legs. My dad and brother are the same way...we are all super lean. So I know I will never be able to bulk my legs up that much. I was just worried that if I went out in shorts I would look anorexic or something. I cannot STAND for people to be constantly making comments to me about how I should go eat a hamburger or something. Like I said, imagine Whitney Port's legs but with a messed up calf and nasty scar. lol. Not a pretty sight I think.

Anyway you guys are probably right. I should just get over it and wear shorts...:) I just haven't shown my legs in public since my accident so I'm nervous about it. Thanks everyone.

I'd have to see a pic to be honest.

As for the scars, depending on how they look, you can try laser or dermarolling to smooth them out.

I don't have a pic but for instance...do you think these legs are too thin? Personally I think they are kinda gross...

If I only saw you at a club or similsr and don't know you at all, I'd choose to approach a different girl. If I knew you and like your personality and you're otherwise attractive to me, it wouldn't be a detractor.

Yeah that's what I'm concerned about. It's being in public around people that I don't know. In my social circle I have no problems...

I'm going to go against the grain here and say... do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. If you feel confident and comfortable going out bare-legged, definitely go for it. The people who mind won't matter, and the people who matter won't mind. If you feel more comfortable hiding the scars, do so. There is no shame in choosing clothes to hide flaws and emphasize strengths - why, half of women's fashion is centred around that.
