HokeyReligions
Urg! My eyes are crossing and I have a 'technical writing' headache! Anyone else gone through the ISO process? I want to rip up the procedure manuals--ALL of them, and just write "Do What I Say" and let THAT be the whole dang manual!!!!!
StartingAgain
Hokey, you have my sympathy. The ISO 9000 processes can be a gruelling experience. God I'm glad I don't have to do all the tech writing! But I do get to squeeze in the hours upon hours of meetings with them. You know, just slip this project in there along with the six server builds, the monthy software release, the data warehouse restructuring, scoping out the new data center, proof of concept on the new app servers, projecting CE for the next FY, and don't forget we need commments on that 250 page vision and scope document we sent you this morning by COB. You can get it all done; just be proactive. Ain't a techie's life grand?
crabbyhag
StartingAgain sounds a little full of himself. I've been in this world a long time and don't know what he's talking about. Must be nice to be so computer savvy.

moimeme
I hardly think he's full of himself, oh aptly-named one! I'm not even a techie, technically ( ) but I've worked with enough of 'em to understand 99% of that - AND ISO 9000.
crabbyhag
Do tell! What is this mumbo jumbo?
StartingAgain
ISO 9004:2000 is a quality management standard published by the International Standards Organization. It's a very complex standard to meet. Hokey's employer is either going for certification or is updranding their quality management practices to meet the standard. The documentation requirement is intense and Hokey has been tasked as a tenchnical writer to produce this. It's a very, very hard and exhausting job.

I'm working on documentation procedures now and then I get to train the document controller/admin folks, then I get to move on to other procedures. I also have to go to a ton of meetings! I want Hermoine's time-turner (from HP's Prisoner of Azkaban) so that I can be in 10 places at once! The hardest part is that it seems like I sit at my desk 80% of the day just waiting on other people! Which is rather ironic since I'm working on ISO and it's supposed to increase effeciency/quality/consistency! Thank you, Moimeme, for the link---I'm going through it now!
