getting serious about losing weight

I made a promise today to really stick with a prescribed eating plan in order to lose the 30+ pounds I've been carrying around for a couple of years now.

 

This is a nutritionally sound program that was prescribed specifically for me.

I believe I really want to lose this weight but have been having problems sticking with a plan.

 

Anyone out there successfully following a plan developed by a nutritionist?

I don't want a new eating plan just some advice on how to STICK with it.

 

I'm over 40, perimenopausal and an emotional eater....wouldn't say compulsive but definitely eating without being hungry.

 

Any words of wisdom?

I say......let's do it!

I'm making a promise to myself to do it for myself and for my kids.

Only one stopping me is me so I've decided to get out of the way.

I'm doing it.

May not seem like that big of a deal but I think it's a step in the right direction....

 

I followed my eating plan yesterday. No deviations. Not even at night when the craving and boredom usually drive me to eat.

 

So here I am......another day. I am going to do this. My nutritionist told me "you will find that if you allow yourself to do this, it will spill into other areas of your life. you are much stronger than you think you are."

 

I'm ready to move past this thing.

 

Anyone else working on getting better by eating better?

I'm still at it!

 

Another day went by and I stuck with it. Ate what was appropriate for me and nothing else. It feels good to be in control and not to be controlled by the urge to eat.

 

I know there has to be someone else out there who is walking the same path I am on. Any words of advice or encouragement for those of us who have just begun?

 

I'd really like to hear from someone who has met their goal and sustained the weight loss. If you are over 40....so much the better. It's a different game we're in at this age, huh?

i was going to give input...but I'm a dude. My way of motivaton wouldn't be appropriate...I don't think.

 

needless to say...a few years ago I had a back injury and I got all fat at 200lbs. Although, I didn't really get fat from anything other than I actually enjoyed having the belly. I've always been a fitness 'enthusiast'. Before the back injury, I was eating whole pizzas a day while working out and not getting fat. After the injury, I forgot to change my diet :p...that belly grew. Then when I noticed it, it became my buddy...that was one weird time. I enjoyed that sucker :D

 

Anyways, 2 years ago I decided enough of my buddy and slowly lost the weight...healthily. Never focused on eating less...just changing how and when. Basically, make it a goal to lose just a pound a week, that comes to 4 lbs a month and 48 in a year. Nice and slow. Of course you can always rush things if you prefer. The thing is, when you think like that, you'll often lose more but the presumed slow progress never makes you falter, it's a mental safeguard thing.

 

As for guys who ask me what they should do or motivation...I just describe how their abs feel, the cuts of the obliques...the energy and flexibility. With me, I can rest my pecs on my knees. At 31 that's awesome I say :D . I can stand there and basically fold myself in half with my elbows almost touching my feet, and I'll tell people..."See, that's what you can do when there's no fat to get in the way."

thanks for the reply.

I say fat is fat....it knows no boundaries. It's the same on me as a female as it was on you as a male. Unhealthy.

Your input was great! I agree that feeling your body change is a BIG motivator. It has given me more energy and self confidence to do things that I had quit thinking about doing let alone attempting to do.

I am losing slowly and soundly this time. So fat about 10 pounds or so in a month and a half. I think I'm on target. I am also watching what I eat, how much and when. It makes a difference.

Anyway.....thanks and stick with it!

I’m trying to lose weight also. I gained a lot of weight after having my baby :( . I have found that if you like to drink water, to drink a lot. Find what works for you. I like to fill a large water bottle of it and drink while I eat and I'll get full very quick. Although I still miss all those bad foods. I miss that size 10 pants more :D ha-ha.

A big help for me has been to record what I eat every day. It has helped me to see that a dangerous time for me to overeat is in the evening time.

I have also decided to eliminate what carbs I eat after say four in the evening. I still eat some carbs....good carbs.....but will have them early in the day rather than late at night.

I agree....who needs the junk food when you can buy new pants?

Keep at it and reach your goal.

Mine is a size 6.......one day.

Hi everyone, I'm still trying to find the right balance for my body. A few years ago I was diagnosed with Hasimoto's thyroiditis. The only reason I knew at that point something was not right was that I litterally gained 30 pounds in a matter of 2 months, even though I had been exercising and have always ate a pretty healthy diet. Since then, my weight is a constant yo-yo, depending on if my thyroid decides it is functioning or not functioning. My medication is being adjusted about every 6 months. Are any of you out there dealing with autoimmune diseases such as this and can you offer any advice on what I should be consuming? Currently I have cut out all white bread, pasta and rice. I also just recently developed lactose intollerance and have cut a significant amount of dairy from my diet.
