What's your baseline stress?

Recommended Posts

How does one assess their stress level? Work stress vs Play stress; what constitutes your personal baseline in work and play stress.

What personal guidelines do you consult to assess a "dangerous" personal level of stress in your own work level and play level.

Please don't include 'waking up screaming then realize you haven't fallen asleep yet' stress...

If I am smiling and laughing less during any given day, and if I find myself getting cranky, those are the signs to me that I'm either under stress or that something physical (hunger, PMS, etc) needs attention. They are my first flags that stress may be affecting me. I don't want to go anywhere near 'dangerous' stress levels, but if you're having constant headaches and other body pains, are either always angry or always unhappy and you feel like you're under pressure, those are fairly significant.

Hello, Peter34. Got your reply to my post (i quit my job) and found it very interesting. The way you speak, kind of funny. Anyway, I would say I had to decide to quit my job when I began having nightmares about my boss. I think that when something has penetrated your subconscious then that is too much stress. Would you agree? Are you especially stressed now? And how would you define stress from play? That was a curious phrase I thought.

I feel calmer now and I think I am deciding to look for another teaching position. I feel glad I quit b/c my evaluator was a really bad communicator and a terrible mentor and Irealized I did not want to go back. I can still teach in the district though and they always need bilingual teachers here. But why should I endure another stressful year? It's stressful enough being a working mother of 2.

I wanted to talk to you more about your reply. I've talked to friends about career change, or pursuing writing, but I am curious about when you said that baby and summer and writing do not belong in the same paragraph. Can you speak more to this? And what is street english? Where are you from?

Hope to hear back from you,

LL

Play stress? Had no idea there was such a thing, unless you mean stress you experience in your life outside of work. How can you be stressed when you play unless you play professionally.

Work stress too much? I start forgetting things. I cut people off mid-sentence. I feel agitated and frustrated by the smallest events. This is when I know I need vacation. I wake up in the middle of the night remembering something I should have done and did not and then I can't fall asleep again.

Stress outside of work. I bite my nails and yell at my kids (sad but true). Again, time for vacation.
