If you could meet...

Recommended Posts

strongnrelaxed

All of those women who had their sons and husbands killed during the crusades. Snatched out of bed at night and murdered becaues they did not "believe" and "accept" and"obey". All of the raped little girls and women.

If you could meet all of those children whose mothers were tortured to death as witches in Mass and elsewhere - and the new "child witches of Africa" (look this up, it is remarkably disturbing and a current practice among Christians)

If you could meet all those good townsfolk who had their entire lives devastated during the rape murder and torture of the various inquisitions. If you could meet the fathers of all of those young boys (and the men those boys have become) who were ritually and routinely raped by Catholic priests all over the world. And those children molested by Christian missionaries in South American in the 70's and 80's as they "spread the word" of god.

If you could meet these people and look them in the eye and tell them that you "believe" in that god - the god who oversaw all of that horror done in her name - I would want to be far away from you and not see what would become of you.

But I daresay it would be one time that I might consider praying for you.

Well at least we're getting somewhere.

It is tragic what has been done through time in the name of religion.

But I don't blame the deities. I blame the men and women who perpetrated those crimes.

Well you know what they would say. Our god is a loving God, he sent his only son to die for the sins of man. It is the evil of man that has commited such evil deeds. Ive heard it so many times.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

Kind of like you have no problem with "Christ," only a problem with christians?!

I blame the characters, the people that created the characters, people that read the and follow the characters. It's all a rather sick discriminate joke.

No, not kinda like. I said, "I blame the men and women who perpetrated those crimes."

There are bad eggs in every group. I don't have a problem with Christians. I have a problem with people who commit crimes of the nature mentioned in the OP. Some of whom happen to call themselves Christians.

How can you blame God for that though? I mean there are always extremists in every religion or every belief in general. Bad things happened in the Bible. I'm sure a lot of those people still believe in God

You guys satisfy my curiosity on how the minds of believers work.

People "watching" can be pretty fun ;)

Be careful or you might become one of us j/k

Your responses are quite frankly creeping me out. The lack of empathy and understanding for those deaths and atrocities is stunning and way beyond anything that can be easily explained by arrogance or ignorance. You know what happened, so you cannot claim ignorance.

Every time I see the cute smileys and the "god works in mysterious ways" comments, I cannot help but feel profoundly sad for humanity. This means another generation is not only perpetuating this system, but celebrating it.

These horrific actions - I listed but a few - are so numerous, so pervasive, and so broad in their scope and condoned by the bible, either explicitly or implicitly in so many ways that it is hard to imagine another decent human being finding it comical or cute or so easy to dismiss with a clever comment.

And the rest of you sort of high five each other - sort of like "yay, score one more for us! God is awesome and by the way, what's on tv tonight"

I know now that I am in the minority in thinking that this is sick. I know that I must sound like an insane person for pointing out how sick mass murder and torture are. I cannot believe I am reading what I am reading.

We are living in a twisted and bizarre world. That this insanity can be so easily dismissed and deflected as the isolated actions of a few - despite the overwhelming magnitude of the transgressions is just wrong in my book. I am no longer comfortable here.

We are in such an ugly place in America. What a drastic change from when I was a kid. I guess I need to wake up to reality. Thank you for opening my eyes.

Wow.

I give you my word - this is my last post in this religion space.

I really do wish you all the best.

Don't go friend :)

But if you do, I wish you well.

Christ is always willing to break bread with you. If nothing else, here is one last video for you which will probably do a better job explaining than I have or can:

YouTube Jesus Of Nazareth 15

Peace <><

Recently I responded to a post that was written by an anti-Semite who wanted to discuss (or, more like vent) about Israel and Zionism. I've responded to many posts here written by women - haters who wanted to discuss (vent about) feminism. And then there are the Obama haters who want to have political chats over in that forum. Here is the exact same construct about Christianity.

It is not worthwhile talking about anything with somebody who is not interested in an exchange of ideas, especially if their mind is completely closed. What would be the point?

Yes, I can see your point. It's easy to get frustrated.

Thankfully, with God all things are possible :) I've seen the hardest of hearts changed (mine for one). Not always right away, we can only plant the seeds. God does the growing. If we try to make the seeds grow, we get frustrated. It's God's job to change people, ours is just to plant the seed...God doesn't need us to defend Him, prove Him, or beat people over the head with Him. He needs us to represent Him by loving others, sharing the truth with kindness and respect, and not set ourselves up as their judges. That's what I've been learning anyway. I have a lot more to learn though, so we'll see ;)

"What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow." -- 1 Cor. 3

Just my two cents. :)
