Music to get me moving

Recommended Posts

I joined a gym last winter and was really good about going 3x a week...for a while. For the past couple months my attendance has been spotty, my motivation has been low, and I can feel myself losing muscle tone and feeling sluggish, which sucks. I need to get back in there, and I am so much more focused when I have my own tunes to work out to, something that gets my blood moving and helps me get into the right headspace. You know, energetic, maybe a little aggressive. I often listen to indie, jazz-fusion or retro music that's just too groovy or mellow for the gym, so I could use your best gym tunes suggestions.

Ah man! So nice to read that Make me run thread again. I've also somewhat fallen off the work out wagon. Seeing how motivated I was is definitely motivating.

I recently saw Madonna in concert and am particularly enjoying running to

Hung up - Madonna (That line about Those who Run seem to have all the fun makes me smile every time).

Gimme all your loving - Madonna (It helps that this act was beyond belief amazing and energetic in the show).

Also added the following, which are kind of indie - and somewhat aggressive. They could be good for some forms of strength training

Starlight - Muse

Uprising - Muse

And, for some reason, this one works for me:

All the things that I've done - The Killers.

For the aggressive thing, you might want to consider songs by the Kings of Leon, Eminem and Franz Ferdinand.

You could also google bodypump playlists. They're the tracks used in body pump classes, which are strength training classes. I know some of those songs really rock it.

The music at the Olympic opening, is one thing that I've listened to, to get me moving (though not for exercise, yet - I need to be working out, as well). I thought I heard it on an ad for a new tv show.

a work out play list i soften very personal and goes on tastes and what music you like you need to switch your playlist up so it doesnt become repetitive go broad spectrum of music styles be eclectic......thing 60 s through to now.....work on finding all your favourite songs associate th music with your mood at the time of working out or about to work out and i twill motivate you....in the hard slog try to include varying speeds of music so you have breaks in between fast and slower....so you can adjust your pace helps actually burn fat faster and works different muscles.......if you vary intensity....... i am retardedly in love with love at the moment so a lot of my music reflects my mood...and unfortunately my daggy personality.....smilin....good luck keep trekkin......deb...

I'd recommend heavy metal, anywhere from Black Sabbath to Metallica to Lamb of God and anything in between.

Or dubstep because it's an abomination to music and it's existence angers me and allows me to work out harder.

Oh hell yes! Rammstein gets my mojo going. Although I'm partial to Du Hast, Freur Frei, Reise Reise and Mann Gagen Mann.

Also Metallica tunes such as Fuel, Master of Puppets, Blackened.

When you work out, angry music is the only way to go.

Also...I just want to point out, I HATE going to the gym and hearing some canned light rock music channel.

Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to do heavy squats to the Bee Gees "How Deep is Your Love?" Ugh. :(

Well, if you really want some tough music to get yourself moving, I recommend you to listen to metalcore. One of my favourite songs that always makes me want to hit the gym instantly.

And a great break-up song from another excellent band.

I second tman and MonsterMash -- metal all the way. Rammstein is great for that. Any of the faster and more relentless, driving Metallica tracks.

I can recommend

PodRunner - a smartphone app and a podcast. The podcast is free but if you get the app (2 bucks) you can adjust the tempo of the music to suit your pace.

Zombies....Run! Much hyped but still great fun Running app that is entwined with a plot where you are running to get medical supplies whilst dodging hordes of brain-hungry moaners.

Kraftwerk - if you like German electrop (and I do!) then they have an album Tour De France which is all about working out ... culminating in the appropriately named track "Electro Kardiogramm". I have a playlist called "Kraftwerkout" ...

Good luck with creating and sticking to your regime
