BetheButterfly
Hello, I'm still a bit stunned, though I knew it would happen soon. All my family knew the time was limited for him. His health has been bad for awhile. Right now, I just feel a aching pain in my chest and a dullness in my brain.. it's like I don't even want to think about it. He had a massive heart attack. My darling Grandpa My Grandpa is a wonderful man. Yes, I said is. I believe he still exists. Now, I don't know if he's in Heaven right now or just "sleeping." There are different verses in the Bible that make both seem to be correct. I choose to believe though that he is in Heaven with Jesus!!! I am sad. I miss him. He is a very jovial person. He grew up on a poor farm in the Midwest USA. His two older brothers died in a car crash caused by a drunk driver. He was young then. He didn't want to take over the farm but instead felt God called him to a pastor. The first time he saw a toilet was in the seminary. I love it when he tells that story!!! He told lots of hilarious stories. He loves to sing!!! The earliest and most memories I have of my Grandpa is him singing and playing the guitar and the piano and the banjo and the harmonica. He loves southern gospel music and bluegrass music. He sang in a quartet for decades. He would sing to me and my sisters and cousins whenever we got together for Thanksgiving and Christmas. All of his kids, including my Dad, love to sing... I think because of Grandpa's influence. They all play at least one musical insturment. Thanksgiving and Christmas were always special times, one of the reasons being because of Grandpa and his songs. This Christmas he is not going to be there I'm crying now. I can't imagine going to see all my relatives on my Dad's side without Grandpa being there. Please pray for my Dad and his siblings and Grandpa's wife. They are together now getting ready for his funeral on Saturday. I can't come because I am too far away. Love hurts a lot, but life on earth is temporary. I can't wait to see my Grandpa (and my Grandma his 1st wife and Mamaw, my Mom's Mom, who died years earlier) in Heaven someday! God bless These verses are comforting me right now: Isaiah 25 Isaiah 25 NIV - Praise to the LORD - LORD, you are my - Bible Gateway "On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; 8 he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken." Revelation 21 Revelation 21 NIV - A New Heaven and a New Earth - Then I - Bible Gateway " 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[isaiah 25:8] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”" 1 Corinthians 15 "51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”[isaiah 25:8]" Edited September 26, 2012 by BetheButterfly
Author BetheButterfly
My Grandpa used to sing and play the guitar or banjo to this song: I'll Fly Away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smEA-aPui1A The youtube is not my Grandpa obviously, but he and I both love this song!!! Now he has flown away. I don't want to write anymore now. God bless everyone and may we use each moment to bless others!!!

GorillaTheater
I'm sorry Beth. I practically worshipped the ground my grandfather walked on, and I remember how tough it was when he died. And let me just say that you are probably the flat-out nicest, sweetest and most kind-hearted poster on LS. I've never crossed posts with you before, but whenever I see your posts I know it's always going to be something positive and uplifting. Well done.
Author BetheButterfly
I'm sorry Beth. I practically worshipped the ground my grandfather walked on, and I remember how tough it was when he died. And let me just say that you are probably the flat-out nicest, sweetest and most kind-hearted poster on LS. I've never crossed posts with you before, but whenever I see your posts I know it's always going to be something positive and uplifting. Well done. I adore my Grandpa!!! I really don't know what to do with myself right now. I am trying to distract my mind from thinking about him. I haven't even talked to my Dad yet. I've talked to my Mom. She's been crying all day. My Dad is much more reserved concerning his feelings. When his Mom died, he kept the pain bottled up inside and it wasn't until his dog Hershey died that he let all the pain and tears out. One thing that is good is that he spent a LOT of time going fishing with his Dad and brothers the last year. That is good. He got to spend a lot of quality time with his Dad. They also sang together in church quite a few times which I know is super special to both of them. I haven't seen my Grandpa for 2 years. I am still numb. I thought that I would get to see him this Christmas I really did. I should have called him more. My hubby and I should have gone out for Christmas last year. I'm rambling. Anyways, no I'm not nice sometimes, especially when I'm passionate about a topic, but I try to be because I love God and I believe God wants me to be nice and love everyone. I'm human though and fail easily. Thanks though for the compliment. That's awesome that you loved your Grandfather. Grandfathers rock!!!
TheFinalWord
I'm so sorry to hear that BetheButterfly All of my grandparents are gone...it is weird b/c I watched my parents go through the experience of their parents dying. Reality set in that I will have to experience that too some day...death is so weird when you think about it. One minute here, next minute gone... I will pray for you. Hang in there!
freestyle
My heartfelt condolences for your loss--it's so hard to lose a grandparent, especially when they've brought us so much joy. I got a little twinge reading--my grandad was a musician, too, so some of the old songs really resonate with me. Since you're not able to attend the ceremony, how about doing a memorial night for him at home, where you play some of the songs he used to perform if you have records, or Youtube is great for finding music), and drink a toast in his honor? I think he'd appreciate you listening to music in his honor.

pureinheart
*Tears*, I am soooo sorry. How are you doing? Grandparents are the best, and by what I'm about to say in by no means takes away from our parents...Grandparents are very special. I see my daughter running all over the place taking care of business. She's a very good mother, and the kids are extremely attached to her, although see the very important role I play in their tiny lives...they can run to grandma with anything and they know it- band-aides, frustrations, sibbling rivalry etc. My heart broke when I saw your thread along with Bents (for JT), it was too hard to post right then fearing I'd say something incredibly emotionally stupid...I hope you are doing better, although I know a deep loss like this takes time and from experience I have never really gotten over the loss of my grandmother. There's always that longing... ((((((((hugs)))))) *tears, love and prayers for you*
