Dblock10
So I'm 24 and noticed about 6 months ago my hair line was starting to become fine and basically recede, I had my hair slightly longer before so swept other hair over it. Just cut my hair short and I'm very worried about these areas above the temples which quite frankly have very little hair. This is my worst nightmare Is there anything that can stop or reverse this if its genetic!? minus hair transplants?
TouchedByViolet
The drug Finasteride stops hair loss for most men and in combination with Rogain can regrow hair. These are the only 2 FDA drugs for treating hair loss. Finasteride does have it's risks and side effects. It is your best bet at stopping hair loss but you should do your research before starting it. I began noticing signs of hairloss at 21 so I know how you feel.
mtnbiker
Believe it or not, I started getting the widows peak around 27. If you have a uniform and shapely head this is actually a turn on for some women(being very, very short or bald.). I can't tell you how hard it was at first for me, then after a year or two of women coming up to me or I to them and getting my head rubbed saying oh it's so soft or this or that...it is what it is and you need to believe it is a positive and be proud. The "combover" is NEVER attractive. You are so much more than your hair anyways.
Author Dblock10
thanks guys, so did either of you try 'rogain' or what not? is finasteride like propecia? heard some very worrying negative sides for that what id also add is that my hair around 6 months + back, was becoming very dry after showers, just in general very dry upper temples, white flakes of dandruff used to fall out if i rubbed. id towl dry the hair, maybe this caused some to fall out in those areas? if hair falls out due to stress will it regrow naturally? its odd that one side (my right) is much worse than the left which looks pretty normal or better anyway Edited September 27, 2012 by Dblock10
Lobouspo
Go with Propecia and Rogaine for a good one two punch. I have a doctor who prescribed me Avodart off label as it is a more powerful DHT inhibitor. It has halted my receding hairline, and my hair is more fuller and thicker than it has ever been. Author Dblock10
thing ive heard about rogaine is that if or when you stop taking it, your lose the hair if not more.. so its like not sustainable in terms of money propecia has been linked to ed and male breast cancer amongst other things. have been looking at procerin? anyone heard of that? also has anyone heard of repricel? do you think hair cloning will be available soon? im tempted to just take saw palmetto 1800mg a day, and grapeseed supplements. may get a bottle of procerin xt foam, failing any results from this, i will simply save for a FUE follicular unit extraction op. seems to do wonders and leaves no 'lined scars' like normal hair transplants
Lobouspo
Yes Rogaine and Propecia are only treatments not cures, you would have to take these drugs for the rest of your life to keep your hair. Also most insurance plans will not cover propecia as it is considered a cosmetic drug.....Beware of snake oils, the aforementioned are the only FDA approved drugs to treat male pattern baldness. FitChick
Rogaine is best for preventing hair loss and regrowing hair on the top back portion of your head. It isn't expensive. Buy it at CVS or RiteAid when it's on sale in multipacks. The generic brand, Minoxidil, is even cheaper. You can probably find bargains online as well. It runs about $12 a month, which is about how long a bottle lasts. If you can't afford that you have bigger problems. If you don't want the hair to fall out when you stop using it, DON'T STOP USING IT! It's perfectly safe.

Also use the FOAM product....Way less messy than the regular liquid form and absorbed by the scalp better.
xxoo
Shave your head, and be free of these concerns. Rock it.
Jamesblame
I used to be freaked out about my widows peak. I laughed it off when my then gf told me I was developing one. As the years went by though.... well it sucks. But not uncommon. Just keep getting a haircut that works to your hairline. I don't do the propeci a/rogain because of the chemical side effects. That being said. I am considering a hair transplant to lessen the sting of the widows peak. I like hair, and a lot of celebrities with "great" hair are actually hair transplants and wigs. Receding hairlines isn't a symptom of old age. It's a symptom of being in your twenties. Hardly an old man's disease.
tman666
A receding hair line just makes you look like a MAN. Shave/buzz your head, grow a beard, get some tats. You'll be set. (kidding about the tats, unless you're into that of course)

(kidding about the tats, unless you're into that of course) Unless you're really skinny and wear glasses with a weak chin. Honestly, dude, just do what makes you most comfortable. It is genetic. Every guy loses some hair, some more than others. style yourself accordingly. Look at men who you admire with your similar features and then work with it Edited October 26, 2012 by Jamesblame
pteromom
Don't forget that some of us women find the receding hairline sexy. Just don't do the combover, and you'll be fine. Oh, and don't let your hair grow long in the back to make up what is missing from the front.
blacktea
I read that castor oil helps grow back hair. Google it. You can get it for under 10 bucks. HTH!
