Candied-Heart
I've done some reading and searching, so I'm not totally relying on message boards yet I am at a loss as to how I am going to be able to get things going for a [2 year maximum] move to the USA to be with my boyfriend of a year and a half. I was hoping someone could shed some light or someone by chance, may be in my shoes and have the right info! I do know of some of the paths I have available to me, but as I am happily wishing to commence study there; I have sadly no means to seek 'International student' status. I work, but definitely do not earn enough, nor have saved enough to be able to fund that sort of stay/education opportunity. We're looking at roughy 50 thousand American dollars for the two years alone! My boyfriend is a struggling student as is, he and I both together cannot fund that sort of stay. We are not willing to obtain a Fiancee/Marriage sort of based visa, we want to take that aspect of our lives slowly and don't want it to be something we do just to be living in the same nation. I would seek the one pertaining to employment though my main reasons for being there would be to work towards a degree and I am not sure as to what the grounds are for a work visa. I'd assume it's more a career oriented visa for those serious at wanting full time professions as opposed to a casual/part time job. All I know for sure is that I hope to be there in 2005 for the start of their Fall semester and I intend on coming back home to Australia after this two year period [where my BF is hoping to take up Australian citizenship] so I know that this visa will be under the nonimmigrant header. Has anybody got any helpful advice or experience that will help me out a little. Thankyou so much for any help or thoughts!!
maymay
I understand how you feel. I'm actually in a LDR, he lives in the US and I live in HK. I have tried to go over there for 3 years, yet i still can't find a possible and "quick" way. I totally agree with you that seeking for financee visa is not a good way, coz marriage is a serious issue. Sorry, I really can't help you, i wish i could. Right now, i'm waiting for the green card lottery, i think it is the most possible way for me to get over there. But if he is going to get citizenship in Australia, and you won't have to wait for long, then you should wait for him, but if it takes years for him to do so, then, maybe you can try green card lottery, but i'm not sure if Australians are eligible for applying..... Anyway, good luck for both of us.
