lexnmike4enomore
How old are you when you start losing your hair? I'm 20 and lately when i shower, huge clumps of my hair come out. I mean it clogs the drain and i end up taking a bath. When i brush my hair even more comes out. Is this normal for a 20 year old?
dudesomewhere
you're female and losing your hair? Could be stress. Anything in your family history to suggest this? Like balding or thinning hair women? Could also be that your hair grows super fast and it's on/off cycle is higher than avg...like mine. I always think I'm losing my hair, cuz I have this gigantic Ben Afleck forehead thing going on. I can shed hair like you wouldn't believe. Enough to cover 2 completely bald men in a year
Fayebelle
In high school my thyroid decided to grow it's own brain and start F%$#*&g w/me. 1st I started "shedding" like crazy- then I started sleeping like 18 hrs a day- then I lost about 20 lbs in 2 months. The 1st 2 we thought were normal teen crap but the weight loss was creepy so I finally saw my Doc. Is it getting duller or is the texture changing? Your hair can point out a lot of things- Docs can often spot eating disorders by hair b/c it needs nutrients to be healthy. Do you use drugs (don't have to answer just consider it)- that effects your hair too. If you use a drug it leaves an "imprint" in your hair that remains until your hair has grown and been cut or shaved at the point that was at your scalp at the time of use. That's why lots of air lines and big corp use hair samples for drug tests.
lexnmike4enomore
It could be stress......but i handle things well. Faye...what do you mean by texture changing....i do everything known to man on my head blow dry, flat iron, curling iron, so its damaged. and i dont think it those things. Ive been doing that for 3 years now. Im sitting here right now, running my fingers through it and more and more hair just keeps coming out. I smoke weed once in a while...but not enough for hair loss. If i were to go to the doctor, would he test for that? Im not worried. But if this continues, im going to have to go to the doctors and see whats wrong. It just came out of nowhere.
Fayebelle
Your Doc CAN NOT drug test you w/out your knowledge. Anyway- how bout going to your stylist for a deep conditioning and purifying treatment for your hair- you seem to be a bit harsh on your do.. Watch your diet-try to eat balanced foods and take a vitamin every day and see if that helps. Vitamins for pregnant women are GREAT for your hair and nails but be careful b/c they actually increase fertility and can lower the effectiveness of the pill (that is my definition of irony ). If that doesn't help in a few wks I'd call my Doc.
YellowLioness
Lol. Weed shouldn't cause hair loss... I'd be bald... Er... I mean... Anyway, So you don't feel so bad, when my mawmaw died, I lost nearly half of my hair. It was caused by immense stress. Pretty gross, huh? Mine came out in clumps. I'd lose so much that I'd have to clean out the brush everytime I used it. Other things can show a vitamin defiency: your finger nails, your skin tone, how tired you are... Maybe you're just killing your hair with dye. When I over expose my hair to stuff like gel, blow drying, hair dye, etc, it tends to get a bit thinner. I think that there is only so much stress a strand of keratin (sp?) can take. :-)

swtbonita
I know a girl that lost alot of hair when she was around 10 years old due to stress.. She was in dance. And with school and dance she had alot of pressure.. When her parents found out she stopped going to dance and took things slow... And the hair stopped coming out and she was fine.. I also know another girl who lost hair because she had Hirsutism.. Hirsutism can also cause hair loss because a women will have too much testosterone and begin to lose their hair as a man would.. but to a lesser effect.. I would say go to your doctor.. show her how much hair is falling out and ask her what can cause this and if you can be tested..
